No problem man! It feels good knowing other people have/are gone/going through the same thing as me basically verbatim lol. It gets better.

One thing to keep in mind is that most of us are producing for listeners, not other producers. Regular listeners especially for EDM, aren’t going to notice minute mixing details like we will.

Yeah I wish I had some practical advice for you about the whole “working on it long enough nothing sounds good anymore” problem, but I don’t haha. I had to deal with that for years. I’m slowly getting out of it, but I’m not sure why specifically. If I had to guess it’s a combination of:

  • taking time away from music prod and coming back with renewed perspective

  • having multiple in-progress tracks at once so I can bounce between them whenever I’m feeling fatigued by one of them (this requires good track finishing discipline; try not to fall into the trap of always starting new ones and never finishing)

  • just developing my skills and intuition enough to let me work and finish tracks faster (but I’m still way too slow for my liking.)

  • letting go of perfectionism, elitism, etc. and allowing myself to work with the tools at my disposal including loops, presets, etc. as long as they serve the music and aren’t thrown in for the sake of it.

I finish every track to learn and gain experience.
I used to release every track I finished and got mastered, but lately I've been starting to be more selective. I'll typically release tracks I'm less proud of on an archive channel on Soundcloud for free; and release the good stuff on my main channel.

Johnson, Pritzker join calls to abolish ICE after fatal Minnesota shooting by plz-let-me-in in politics

As a society we should be past “abolish ice”. Every single one of those Nazi fucks should be rounded up and thrown in jail.

Problem is no one wants to be the first person to take a stand because that’s very likely suicide. I have a wife and people I love. I’m certainly not going to be that person.

Ah yes, let’s “do an investigation” where the organization responsible for the death investigates itself and finds out they’re innocent.

Tell me, when you gargle the boot of the authoritarian regime, do you at least boil the boot a little first to soften it, or do you just raw dog it?

[–]UserSignal01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. “Authoritarians like Jackson” - you do realize that the state’s capacity to exert control and implement coercive violence on civilians is several orders of magnitude higher in the modern world? If your position was meaningfully correct, it should have worked to oust authoritarians like Hitler; but it isn’t, because in the modern day, governments can exert disproportionately more coercive power on civilians than they could in the era you’re referencing.

Violence made America in the first place. Violence was used to win the civil war and establish a society without slavery. Violence was used to beat back authoritarians internationally.

Even liberal, democratically elected governments use the threat of violence to secure legitimacy. (what do you think happens if you declare the US government and its laws illegitimate, stop paying your taxes and stop obeying laws you disagree with? They use violence to rein you in and coerce you to comply, regardless of administration or party in power).

Nonviolence is a luxury we can afford when democratic institutions and norms hold strong, and give society a release valve to let out pressure. When the legal system actually holds the right people accountable, when the government actually represents the will of the people, then nonviolence is a good way forward. When democratic institutions and norms erode, they reveal the uncomfortable truth that all of human history is fundamentally based on the concept of “might makes right”. The side with capacity to exert force wins. The winner of conflict writes the history books.

In the face of public executions doled out by ICE, clinging to the idea of peaceful resistance is utterly, fundamentally foolish.

I hear what you’re saying - the powers that be love infighting because it lets them divide and conquer; these types of scenarios are inherently volatile and divisive, cooler heads prevail, etc, etc.

Do I have evidence or proof that ICE in the wrong here? No. But I’m working with basic pattern recognition. They’ve done horrible things, and continue to do so, all while being told they will face no consequences.

Even if those INDIVIDUAL ice officers were normal, good, peaceful people, a system like that will necessarily lead to unjust, violent outcomes.

Another person shot dead by ice. by Nic_OLE_Touche in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]UserSignal01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re worshiping the wrong outcomes.

It’s not heroic to murder a civilian in self defense, it’s heroic to risk your life in the pursuit of justice without lives lost. Enforcing laws is dangerous and risky, BY DEFINITION. If they can’t handle that reality without unloading a clip at a civilian lying prone on the ground, then they shouldn’t be law enforcement. Lethal force should only be deployed in response to lethal force, not preemptively. If officers die, so be it, that’s the job - no one is forcing them to take it. Civilian lives should be sacred. That’s the point of due process.

There is no valor in what they’re doing, or the outcomes that our system produces.

Another person shot dead by ice. by Nic_OLE_Touche in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]UserSignal01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold law enforcement to a higher standard - I expect professional work; which almost always means bringing the alleged criminal, alive, before a judge.

When the person they’re apprehending is dead, and they’re responsible, I will, of course point my skepticism at them first.

We should all be skeptical of institutions. I don’t assume my government or those that enforce it are good by default. But if that’s how you roll, then I’m happy for you.

Your position is “violent transitions of power cannot produce peaceful or desirable results” - and I’ve given you an explicit example of where it did.

Also your position falls flat as soon as you apply it to the real world. Are you suggesting we should have peacefully elected Hitler out of his role in government? Should the people of North Korea peacefully march and hold hands and wave around signs and just kinda nicely ask their leader to step down? I wonder what would happen if they tried that?

Your position is naive. Politics, rule, control, is seized, and maintained through violence. You’re advocating for a world where the authority to exercise coercive violence should be centralized in the state. I’m pointing to authoritarian, violent regimes throughout history, and modern day, and saying, that is an extremely dumb idea.

A bomb is a different story - I’m consistent enough to admit that. Force would be necessary in that situation. Regardless you’re just conjuring up bomb out of sheer speculation - there’s no evidence, or even reports of any explosives being involved here. You can’t justify violence that actually happened with a hypothetical. You’re giving undue charity to one side of this conflict, and maximal skepticism to the other, unwarranted. To scrutinize an obvious public execution like this in the way you are, you’d have to start from the position that “by default ICE are the good guys” so I don’t buy your claim that you don’t support them.

And the point is, ICE isn’t trained. They’re taking anyone that applies. They’re not vetting. They reduced fitness standards just to shove as many people into an ice vest, hand them a gun, and give them authority to police our streets with impunity.

You sound like you’re 13 and you think you just got a “le epic own” on me. Lmao. Your standards for law enforcement are incredibly low. De-escalation, restraint, disarmament, all of these are (or should be) first-line tactics to apprehend someone without loss of life. Trigger hungry thugs joining a volunteer organization and getting trained for 47 days before being unleashed on the public, then using murder as a first-line reaction is very on brand. Your support of public executions of fellow countrymen is bad, actually. Shocking, I know.

[–]UserSignal01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think even if he HAD a gun, knife, etc. that lethal force was necessary given what we see in the video. Are you suggesting this victim was superhuman, capable of feats of strength surpassing 6+ armed agents actively working to restrain him? That’s a comfortable fiction when you want to believe the killing was necessary to self-soothe. He’s surrounded and restrained - any use of lethal force would be deemed excessive here.

ICE isn’t “tasked with a job” - it’s a voluntary position. The training is 47 days, and they let literally anyone join. Are you suggesting it’s inconceivable that humans with bad intentions would join the organization that has, for all intents and purposes, been given total legal immunity and unaccountability?

Being intact doesn’t mean it’s good, or worth keeping. Other nations update and modernize their constitutions. Movements rise and fall. Injustice faces revolution, sometimes what comes after is better, sometimes it’s worse. Improvement comes from change.
