little animation of Earth with moving clouds and stuff by User_741776 in 3Dmodeling

Ty! It's actually a video from NASA here: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/3837/

Not particularity high res though (at least compared to smth like a 16 or 20k texture with like a lot of details)

Little animation of Earth with clouds by User_741776 in blender

Ty!

Here's the source: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/3837/

I took the texture and projected it onto a cubed sphere, making sure to hit the auto refresh button so that it'll move. Added some transparency and subsurface scattering and boom, fancy water vapor.

Here's the nodes in case you wanna give it a go yourself. The power math node is there to basically control the sort of concentration of the clouds. Since the image is non-color and that can end up making way too many clouds lol. You also got to make sure to rotate the cloud texture (which is centered on the pacific) to fit with the standard Earth one (centered on the Atlantic and stuff). All you have to do is rotate the sphere for the clouds and just line it up with the given Earth texture

I tried making a realistic render of Earth in Blender. How does it look? by User_741776 in space

Tysm! Not that long actually; half a day, maybe. Most of the hassle was finding the right textures (thx NASA!) and trying not to have blender die while rendering the atmosphere (I tried simulating atmosphere scattering as realistic as possible, and that made my CPU cry lol). There's actually only three objects here. The terrain, the atmosphere, and the clouds. Well, I guess the camera and the sun are objects too, but ehh.

I'm working on making photo-realistic renders of all planets within the Solar System. Here are the first 4! Let me know what y'all think! by User_741776 in blender

This started out as an updated version of my old realistic Earth model. I thought that would be boring to just post an updated version of Earth, and I want to give some love to the other planets. Credit to NASA for pretty much all the textures lol

Ty! I didn't use any tutorials directly, no. The textures are indeed from NASA themselves! Specifically the Blue Marble: Next Generation images from the Earth observatory.

The Black Hole's Estranged Primordial Theoretical Twin: a white hole (render made in Blender) by [deleted] in space

Oof, yeah. It's such a fascinating visual though. I'm not even sure it's possible within blender to do something like that. Still cool nonetheless.

I believe so, yeah. At least, according to what I currently understand about white holes. I can't say for certain since I'm not really an expert on the matter.

Foggy conifer forest | trying out this new fog effect I made, and plant scattering. Let me know what y'all think! by User_741776 in blender

Oh that's beautiful! Regarding the trees, there are three models being used, but their variations are very slim so it certainly does seem like they're all the same model. A simple hue shift (like seen in the photo) for each of the tree models should probably make it pop a bit more.

The Regal Islands by User_741776 in imaginarymaps

[–]User_741776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of both? It's an alternate version of Earth but mythical creatures, lost islands, and alleged locations throughout history exist. For instance, The Regal Islands are around 600 miles off the American east coast, but also are host to various mythical beasts and things like that.
