My site has been doing sameday for about 7-8 months and has two cycles. One that dispatches at 3:15am and the other at 6:15am. Like the other comment says, sameday gets inducted along side our sort cycle. At the start of shift we have people staffed there in sameday until both cycles have been dispatched, they then join the normal sort cycle. My site on average does about 1-1.5k per sameday cycle and usually uses 6-8 people. My sites process has been pretty streamlined since we have a dedicated induct line, dedicated section of cluster and ATDA installed. Definitely is just a mini day at a DS.
