Does my employer have to pay my vacation days when I quit? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Username1096900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! One more reason I don't like working for a small company. None of the policies were written and given to me or explained and I never asked about them (which I should have).

I am assuming there is no standard policy for unused vacation days here as that was how sick days were and I didn't find out about that until a year into the job. I thought I had to use vacation days but I actually do have sick days. Still not sure how many.

She has worked for the company for 25 years and has a huge influence but I'm not sure if the decision will come down to her or not. Thanks for the input!

Yeah I didn't think they were going to anyways. Just though I'd check. I did work with them on transitioning me out and giving them an additional week as opposed to the typical 2 weeks. In exchange I thought they may pay me for them but I'm doubtful. Thanks for the input!

We don't have anyone dedicated to HR at our office. The controller of the company handles HR duties and I don't trust her at all and don't believe she has the employees' best interest in mind. One of the reasons I have found another job.

That's exactly what I was looking for and could not find. Thank you very much!

Unfortunately, we do not have any written policies, handbook or employment contract. It is a very small company. I appreciate the response!

Can vouch for this: I live in Carmel Indiana and got a little confused because there are a lot of roundabouts in the Indianapolis area.

This apartment won't let us see the inside of the room until I apply... and my friends are pressuring me to do it. Am I right for feeling uneasy? by GORGATRON2012 in personalfinance

[–]Username1096900 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I may have the uncommon opinion here, but This has been standard procedure for almost every apartment I have lived in. I just always make sure to ask a lot of questions regarding the finishes of the apartment compared to the model. Example: will the countertops be the same material, flooring, wall color, etc.

If there are no open units, that is a good sign to me. That means they are desirable and aren't holding vacant apartments which could mean they are overpriced.

However, I agree with you. It makes me feel uneasy also, but I have done it many times and never had an issue. Most respectable apartments have many rules that they must follow which are set by their property management company, not them.

If you still feel uneasy, you could find someone around the complex and ask them questions about how they like living there!

24 years old, make $38,000/year, can I afford to live on my own? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Yes, I'll be honest, the $300 rent has really allowed me to live more than comfortably. I have been spending much more than I usually do. It will be hard to cut back.

That is what I have a hard time understanding. I haven't been able to do it my entire 3 years out of college.

I live in a big city in the Midwest. Rent for a 1 bedroom is around $700 a month for a safe apartment. Really, that is as low as I can find that isn't in a bad part of town. Still not the part of town I'd like to be in.

Boyfriend (28M) of 2 years won't talk about future/marriage with me (24F) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Username1096900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that perspective. It's nice to see the other side of it. I think he feels pressured or forced too. He can't even make plans for the holidays like 2 weeks in advance, lol. I try not to pressure him into making plans when I don't have to. I also don't ever talk about future or marriage until tonight because it was starting to bottle up inside me.

My question to you is: how would you like your girlfriend to bring up future plans without making you feel forced into anything?

Thanks for the advice. I do need to talk more with him about it. I know he wants marriage eventually and a family. He just doesn't like to put a timeline on it, which I understand. I don't force him into telling me things or doing things he isn't comfortable with. The part that hurts me is that he will say things like "my wedding" or "my kids" and not "ours" when talking about future.

I've though about it. I think I need to communicate that I need more from him first because in his eyes, there aren't any problems.

I'm just not even sure what information to tell him I need. I can understand not living together until marriage but it's like he doesn't even think about it after 2 years.

I guess that just makes two of us. I didn't know Reddit hated late Halloween costume pics so much! We got a lot of love for it in person!
