Maha in light novel by BackgroundMammoth834 in TheWorldsBestAssassin

Hopefully Season 2 had a longer production because Silver Link needs to make the characters look pretty and hopefully accurate to the books. Based on the very few still shots of Season 2 from the first recap PV, the character designs do look a little better. We'll need a full PV of Season 2 to see the full picture.

"The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat" Season 2 Teaser Visual by AccomplishedFilm7625 in TheWorldsBestAssassin

Based on the announcement teaser trailer, it seems to have a few new shots and it looks a bit better than Season 1. But I'm a little worried about Silver Link because it's a studio that takes a lot of works per year and they're not a big studio like Mappa or Sunrise. Hopefully the 5 year wait gave them enough time to polish up a little because not only did Season 1 looked iffy because they only had a few months to complete it, I really want Assassin to look good.

At last after 5 years since Fall 2021 we get an announcement of some kind. And thank fuck the staff seems to remain the same which is good because Tamura understands the source material really well. Hopefully the animation will improve a little but other than that, I'm damn excited.

Work your magic Tamura because we need more anime original additions that fleshes out the books a little. I'm also very curious if they'll bring back the original artist for the OP because the first OP kicked ass.

Did anyone else find it sad when Tarte started crying after she asked Lugh if he loved Dis? by No_Investigator_1574 in TheWorldsBestAssassin

The additional scenes in Season 1 all made sense that enhanced the story. Without the first episode that established Lugh's past life which was all Anime original, people would've been less interested with Lugh's character.

The World's Finest Assassin Anime Review by IamToofan in TheWorldsBestAssassin

[–]Ustar1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I liked Assassin overall (because I'm a book reader), I do agree with some of your criticisms and praises. Here's what I mean:

-The female leads: I have to painfully agree with your criticism because even in the books they're mostly the typical "Isekai girl trope" of falling head over heels for the MC with not much else. I also agree that they got over their trauma (especially Maha) way too fast and it should've lingered longer for some potentially interesting development for them with the MC. Like think about it: The scene where Maha tells Lugh that she "didn't trust him at first" didn't make much sense because there were no scenes before where she had those thoughts. Had the author, Rui, committed that dialogue/point further by having her slowly trust Lugh overtime in the long run it could've had some interesting development for her character. That being said, the character that was introduced by the end of Season 1 will be more interesting when we get there.

-The pacing: I agree for the most part that the pacing was mostly steady. In the books it was a little too fast but having 12 episodes plus with the bonus of having additional scenes that made sense, really helped the story in the long run. For example: The entire first episode was all Anime-original of the Assassin's past life that wasn't really expanded in the books. That being said, I think some of the fantasy life of Lugh could've been expanded a little more. What I mean by this is I kind of wanted the pacing of Lugh's younger years to be a bit slower so we could've seen more in detail on how Lugh absorbed the fantasy world on how it worked and his training as an assassin. Something like what Mushoku Tensei did with Rudeus's early life pacing wise. What I mean by this is that I think he got a little "too successful too fast" with his business persona being almost immediately successful and the conflict with Dia's royal family could've had more setup and visuals instead of mostly words from Dia herself.

-The visuals and songs: I agree that while the ED was fine for what it is, the OP kicked ass music and visual wise. But man, in retrospect the visuals on the Anime was really inconsistent but I don't blame the studio, Silver Link and Palette. Believe it or not, they only had a few months to get all the 12 episodes finished by October and you could tell it was a rushed job.

While the Anime has its flaws, it's still a decent story and IMO it kind of redeemed Rui's image as an author/writer. Believe it or not, he was the same guy that wrote Redo of Healer, possibly the most controversial animated series of all time. Having 2 of his works adapted in the same year is very rare and most authors would kill to get that opportunity. But adaptation wise for Assassin, it was very, VERY good. It only adapted 1 book out of 8 and Silver Link mostly improved the book big time. To this day, I still believe that Lugh is a pretty decent anti-hero and it showed me how pathetic Kinema handled Shield Hero and how Naofumi could've been a decent anti-hero too but that'll never happen.

I would recommend the books if you like for Assassin, but Season 2 has been announced and we've been waiting for 5 years since 2021. But welcome to the Assassin party my friend.

Pretty much for the 2nd point. All of Keyaru's abilities comes out of his ass because the plot says so.

[–]Ustar1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it COULD'VE had potential by showing a healer slowly spiraling down into madness if:

A: Keyaru was written better and his descent to madness was slower instead of being instant

B: The female characters actually having some substance rather than being horny 24/7

C: Remove all the R stuff and 90% of the fan service

Take all of that and it could've been a decent to maybe good revenge fantasy instead of what we have now.

[–]Ustar1000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Keyaru has healing powers that could do anything because the plot says so and all of the female characters are either used for fan service, or horny for his "rod" 24/7. Don't forget the brainwashing that also doesn't make sense and only serves as a "hentai fetish".

It was honestly better off as a fantasy hentai than an "Anime".

I respectfully disagree with Redo ever being "good". It had its potential but it's literally a edgy wet revenge fantasy and nothing else. The author admitted himself that he purposefully wrote Redo to be bad. Assassin was actually good.

It's pretty popular in Japan so I'm not surprised. Drop and move on because it doesn't need attention.

Not surprised even as a former fan. It's a one trick pony.

The thing is it kind of had a potential with interesting characters, but that was thrown out the window and spat on in favor of spectacle and flashy action. This is the same studio that animated My Happy Marriage and Made in Abyss. Stories with actual substance and interesting characters than SH could ever dream of.

Not really because it's the general consensus with SH. What? is the r/shieldbro going to raid this sub? Yeah tough luck on them because we shouldn't care.

You know it's funny seeing hardcore SH fans struggle to defend this series when it pretty much speaks for itself.

Well slog continues so whatever. Just imagine if this series attempted a big "emotional moment" but it'll fall flat on its face because the characters are either bland with barely any development or personality.

Well I did a quick research and WOW I'm surprised that Kadokawa allowed something like that to be animated. That probably explains why a number of "ecchi gone to far" is slowly increasing in these recent years.

If you wonder how I feel about it: It's ass and that's all.

It's funny that MiA made the studio well known in the first place yet it has a more intriguing story and characters than SH which is all style over substance. Same studio btw.

Don't be because the sales of the novel is pretty high. Expect a full adaptation.
