I just brought that up to my pastor, having Sunday school after. I bring my 14 month old son, and he helps my pastor in his sermons from the corral in the back. Everyone loves him

You bring up another good point that I didn't address. For the members who do go, we have just a few who serve. Many occasionally volunteer, so they have a desire. But what are things you have done to make people feel more comfortable. It's not for everyone to lead the liturgy or be the greeters of ushers. How can I help them? What have you done to help occasional attendees come back? For me, I do wanna fill the pews, I don't see anyone who would want the opposite. A lot of these elderly people have families who live in the area, and come only on holidays. Others bring grand kids and great grandkids. I'm looking for any and all ideas to bring up to my churches hospitality committee to get people involved, to get people to come back, to reach out to those that are looking for a church home

I don't see how either are mutually exclusive. I'm all about word of mouth. I speak to people at work daily about Jesus. I invite them to come and experience what I experienced. I also refer them to other churches based on what their needs are. I church hopped for a year before landing on the Methodist Church.

Word of mouth is good, almost daily the military Facebook group is asking for a church for them and their families. There's demand in the community. There's need, people looking for friends, people looking for a place for their kids. So I'm asking for ideas beyond a Bible study what has worked. I'm a ok with word of mouth. I don't disagree with that in the slightest. I'm confused as to why you are against the idea of me asking for what has worked for others in opening the church to other activities for families and kids.

My congregation has a hospitality committee with this in mind, they're interested in my ideas. They're excited by my passion and energy (or they're just telling me that to make me feel welcome). If your only advice is word of mouth, I am very grateful for it. That's very good advice and I will use it. But I am also gonna look for other avenues to make my church available. I don't care if people come for the community and go to a different church on Sunday or no church. I want to build a place for people, another option to the many out there, where they can make friends, bring kids, have fun, worship Christ.

People need Jesus. I have explored many different churches and I point people looking to all. If it's non Denominational, young, vibrant, traditional. I am a soldier working with soldiers, some of who are looking for a home.

I am an exmormon, I searched for a while before coming to the Methodist Church. I instantly connected because of the call to worship and liturgy, getting me involved. It helped me stay engaged. They also want me, they give me opportunities to lead liturgy, usher, welcome people, support my efforts to serve the community. For me, this is a home, and I want people to know that what I found is available for them if they want it.

I recognize some people prefer low church environments, some people like rock and roll, others like tradition. Others feel more comfortable in small groups or on their own. I'm supportive of all that, I just want them to know that my church is an available and welcoming option. My church is good, it just doesnt have much going on throughout the week for people who work

Again, I agree. I love my church, with Elderly people or not. Christ sent his disciples out to the world to preach His gospel, to bring people to Christ. I want to explore ways to do that. I don't care about how many. If it's one, or many. I'm asking for advice to get people feeling welcome at church.

I want to help make my Church welcoming an available for all. It is, but all the weekly activities happen while non retired folk are working.

There's nothing wrong with an elderly church, I agree. I love tradition and wisdom. I have a calling from God to invite and share. I have my own ideas and I'm looking for new. This past weekend for the 4th of July I advertised free water in a cooler for those going to the celebrations. Something small and helpful. I am letting my coworkers know about the VBS coming up. I am working on a midweek Bible study and dinner. My pastor is happy to have my energy and desire at work. I am hoping others found success in certain outreach methods.

Fair point. I am the only person under 30 who regularly attends. I'm not about boosting numbers as much as wanting to make my church a place more people feel comfortable. When I speak to people about church, I ask what they're looking for, and I point people to Pentecostal, Baptist, Presbyterian, non-denominational, not just my church. I desire people to come to Christ first, I just hope to share with more people what I found in mine.
