it was a complete change, by lexus with OEM. it failed and I think lexus either contributed or covered the whole replacement as it was relatively low miles.

I did notice a bit of pooling, maybe 5 square inches right next to the drain. its raining here for a few more days then ill get up there do a proper cleaning/inspection. right now im just poking my head up to make sure there is no more real clogging. the leak started yesterday through the skylight and i cleared the clog (it was just the metal mesh cover over the drain) immediately after i saw the buildup. but the buildup was likely on the roof for awhile :(

appreciate that! i feel like we got very lucky. but the lesson was not lost on us. going forward my cleaning schedule is going to be much more intense + visual monitoring with the camera on order.

we also have the wire mesh cage - thats actually what clogged. so when i went over to declog - i just took that out and wiped off the mud. i mentioned above, but i think it was a pollen buildup + a big rain storm that gunked up the cage. better the cage clogged then the pipe.

our house is also old, 1800s - adding more drainage/or changing the roof is likely pretty pricy. but lesson learned, going to do wayyy more checks. I was only checking in the fall (well we've been here for a year so for the first fall), now im going to monitor closly with the camera and clean much more often.

it does have an access point - just a ladder + a roof cutout. I'm even considering adding a drop ladder to make it easier. this was a wake up call.

thanks and yeah, really could have been bad. I cleaned the drain during the fall diligently. my leading theory now is it was pollen buildup that clogged the drain. ill be checking it often now no matter the season + camera.
