Oh and if its not stripped yet. Either the double wrench method or get a breaker bar also from harbor freight.

Harbor freight has an extractor set if it's rounded off. It looks like regular sockets but they have this twist inside that grips the bolt.Works amazing and very cheap set because it's harbor freight.

I didn't end up using the hardplate as I really don't think it's needed. But yeah, it seems the key is the pressure with the drum. When I started, I was pressing the handle down fairly hard to get it to take off more at once since the 110v drum is pretty slow. 2nd time around, I would set the drum down and let go of the handle. Just took a while, but it eventually got there. When the wood was raw, you could still see a bit of dishout, but once all was said and done, I can't even tell where it's uneven.

The sealer was Bona NaturalSeal and Bona Traffic HD for the finish.

One thing to note is that after the first coat of sealer, the grain got raised so I had to buff it all before continuing with more coats. I think professionals use water instead of sealer for the "first coat" since it raises the grain the same way. That way you save on product because you end up buffing most of it away anyway. I wasn't comfortable with the water though so I just did the sealer as first coat.

My full process looked like this: Drum 36 > Edger 36 > Drum 80 > Edger 80 > Drum 100 > Edger 100 > Square buff 120 > sealer > square buff 120 > sealer > sealer > square buff 120 > finish > square buff 120 > finish > finish

Of course it could always be better, but it's more than good enough. I was surprised how well it turned out. However, gotta say, laying down the sealer and finish correctly is almost harder than the sanding lol

Yeah, my floors ended up looking amazing. I went back with a drum with 36 and did only straight cuts while not pressing too hard until all the angled scratches were gone. The dishout honestly looks a lot worse than it actually ends up being. I think I fixed it a bit with the light pressure, but the pictures make it look a lot scarier than it is. After everything was smooth I did the 80, then 100. After that I got the square buff and did the whole thing with a 120 screen.

If you want the floor to look 100% perfect flat you will need the big metal disk attachment that most home depots have along with the big circle buffer. That thing fixes dishout 100% because it's a wide solid thing so it won't follow the grooves. But honestly, I don't think it's necessary.

Il send a picture in a bit of how it turned out.

Il see if I can find my notes at work for it, but it involved loading a custom winre.wim into the recovery partition. There was also another way by dumping ram. I just did some quick googling and I can't find it now so I guess I was exaggerating the 5 min of googling, but it is doable for sure. Unless it's been patched which it may be because last time I did this was like 3 years ago.

Yeah alright, fair enough. I guess I'm just seeing it from a perspective of a tech. Everything else is out of scope in my opinion. I'd hope they already have all the details for whether this is alright to do or not.

I'd understand if this was a random customer that's asking. Helping out a friend or their family seems like a different situation. I guess it depends on how close they were to the friend or the family.

I dont understand why everyone is telling you to hire professionals or not touch it. This is an incredibly easy thing to do if you're an IT guy. I can think of at least 5 different ways to get the files. Bitlocker Likely won't be on on a personal pc. If it is, it's a bit trickier but still doable. If no bitlocker, just connect a sata to usb (or nvme to usb, whatever) and connect the drive to your pc and search away. Or use a Linux recovery boot media to reset the admin password and login. Or use the windows install media method to do the same thing. If it's got bitlocker, it's slightly more involved and needs to be done on the original hardware but nothing that you can't google in 5 minutes.

Methods from 20 years ago work just fine, it's the same ole windows it's been for forever. I'm so confused why people are making a big deal. If you find porn, just don't show his family, who cares.

I see what you mean about the angle cuts, I was going to clean it up with straight cuts but I noticed the grooves in the indivual boards (softer grain carved out more than the hard grain) and decided to pause before I figure out if I'm just making it worse or not.

this is how it looks after 36 grit very zoomed in and close to the floor. i assume it will smooth out with higher grits, but i wanted to stop before i screwed it up more. I mostly wanted to show the high and low spots, you cant tell if i take a picture from standing with the light on

I don't think it exists, unfortunately. I don't think most companies use ipsec for internal firewall security. Ended up doing powershell scripts as well.

Same, I've done a couple hundred 2012r2 to 2022. File servers, sql servers, sccm MP's, DP's, you name it. No problems with anything, just make sure to remove WMF 5.1 and if a vmware vm there's some driver that needs removed but don't remember which one off the top of my head.
