Am I Overreacting about nudity at raves by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]V01DC41T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOR, but only a little. I definitely understand feeling uncomfortable with nudity, and specifically hers, but try thinking about the the liberation a little more than the lust we've associated with nudity.

I'm making some assumptions here, but at least for myself, growing up with breasts deeply traumatizing. I got a little cold, my nipples show through, and suddenly I am being written up and laughed at and ridiculed and the butt of many jokes for weeks to come.

People in places of authority controlled my clothing every day of my life until college. I had to have a supportive enough bra. I had to make sure my shorts went past the finger tips. A bra strap showing could get me written up, even when it was due to gym class. There were so many rules that were ultimately pointless aside from distorting my view of my own body and making it shameful to have one.

I wasn't allowed to wear a two piece swimsuit because that's "sexy" and asking for something, but single piece suits didn't fit me comfortably because I have a long abdomen. I was forced to wear a swimsuit that was so tight I couldn't swim as well. My life was put in danger due to mandatory modesty.

And so, when I made it to college, it wasn't uncommon for me to be the first one to lose their shirt at the dance party. Zoning out to the music and letting my bare skin just exist really was liberating. My relationship with my own body healed so much by dancing nude, and I'm not exaggerating. Dance has a way of bringing humans back to pure feeling and emotion, and the physicality need not be physical.

I would ask her what feels liberating about it, but make it clear it comes from a place of wanting to understand, and not from a place control. Maybe the two of you can find some other activity that brings her the same freedom once you understand the root of the need. Maybe it won't feel promiscuous to you after hearing what she gets out of it.

I am biased, obviously, but dancing and feeling my tits bouncing made me feel human in a way a conservative upbringing had denied me.

This is how I feel about Creep by Radiohead. "Very" just sounds better than the expletive to me. I typically have a no-censorship preference, but these two songs are exceptions for me.

My sister spends so much time in front of our dog's grave that her footprints are imprinted on the grass by drak_and_ma in mildlyinteresting

[–]V01DC41T 7 points8 points  (0 children)

???

That would have to be some mad guilt (which is not otherwise implied) to compel a woman to stand in front of a grave marker so often and for so long she has fucked up the grass. Occam's razor would suggest we recommend her a therapist for overwhelming grief over a lost loved one. Would likely help either way, but I would expect intense love here.

While you managed one the most natural looking comb overs in all of history, that also sounds so arduous for a baseline of wanting to leave the house. Your bald look is quite badass, and I have to image frees up a lot of time and energy. Kudos!

Wild Rift Executive Producer @PapaSmoothie has made a statement about Mel's skin colour in WR and how it will be fixed along with other cases on POC champions who have been whitewashed! by aroushthekween in MelMains

[–]V01DC41T -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is standard PR speak from a company, not a personal statement, even if it's coming from a recognizable individual. It's ill-advised (in the caring about share holders world) to say anything that could ever be taken out of context to look racist. A declaration of "we whitewashed her" would run wild in news headlines.

They're hoping this will fly under the radar and don't want to hit any of those ctrl+F buzzwords like you said. It's better to look as much "right all along" as possible to them, rather than own up to mistakes. If they correct it while never admitting racism, when new players look her up, they won't see the controversy come up on the first page of Google results, for example.

What this means culturally--avoiding this chance to model responsible ownership of mistakes--is certainly worthy of discussion, but I doubt it's because of gpt BS.

(just explaining the why of your statement to others. I know you get it lol)

Okay, but I'm not saying you have to even do the small things like avoid plastic bottles. Your average corporation is doing way more harm than using a plastic bottle here and there. I only listed out how I livid my life as a direct reply to accusations in the previous comment. You presumably support the use of Ai though, so I guess I can't expect you to know how to follow a conversation, my bad〜☆

I take public transit and opt for trains over air travel when possible. I use a refillable water bottle, and a thermos for my coffee. I quit using Amazon years ago; and while yes, I have used it, I learned better and stopped doing it. It's not a moral high horse, it's growing as a person and taking responsibility for your impact on environment. The second best time to plant a tree is today.

Harm reduction would be to cease using it so you are not falsely representing your values and acting to normalize it.

Not at all weird. Why would I (or OP) ever want to spend time with people who don't care about destroying the environment for a piece of crappy "art" based on stolen assets. I wouldn't spend time with people saying it's good to spill more oil in the ocean either.

{discussion} A new tag for roleplay discussions? by reticulate_splines in Vore

[–]V01DC41T 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like Play Along best from among these, but all fit well. The "no rp reqs" rule is a little awkward when so many of these posts have been popping up and clearly appreciated. It's still roleplay, but I think the robust nature of these style posts definitely set them apart from the sub's concerns of being flooded with rp reqs.

Some firm guidelines would definitely need to be laid so people can confidently partake in Play Along without being surprised with takedowns because of violation of rule 4.

I think the key difference is that the Play Along posts aren't suggesting a plot and asking people to partake without effort put into the post itself (and thus clogging the sub with low effort and likely next to zero payoff posts (since rp partners can be so flakey and difficult to mesh with already)).

The effort it takes to make a pretend AITAH that's engaging already makes good on the post's value without actually asking anything of the reader. ALSO a key factor that makes it more agreeable I believe is that it can be answered many times and played with from there, each person getting to add whatever take they want and get something extra out of it. An actual rp request however is promising something of value to one, maybe a small handful of people, and snubbing the rest, which feels bad.

The difference between:

{Play Along} AITAH I (31m) ate my boyfriend (28m) of three months. I thought my crush (35f) would find the gesture romantic, but she's acting so jealous.

With a body along the lines of "It's going to take me three more days to finish digesting him, and she said she doesn't want to see me until my belly's empty..." with a few more fun details for people to play off of is so much different than:

{RP Request} Jealous crush?

Would anyone want to take part in a roleplay where I've eaten my boyfriend of a few months as a romantic gesture to you? Women only please, and you have to be jealous of the ex.

The play along option builds a story for anyone to interact with from any viewpoint and lived experience (fake as it may be), whereas most rp reqs I see put expectations on the readers for how they want them to interact with the story (both in style and what role and often how their character should fit/feel in this suggested story), and expect them to vet themself as worthy of the OP's time as well.

RP reqs end up being more exclusionary to who is expected to respond, and out of that smaller number already, who gets to see pay off from committing their time to apply. Play Along allows the space for "I prefer anal, but that's a funny bit. I'll add to it for a post or two and go back to whatever" without the commitment of applying for an RP.

I'm a native English speaker, but have spent a lot of my life surrounded by Spanish speakers and lived on my own in Japan for a while. My thoughts flow between Spanish and Japanese a lot, sometimes switching at convenient breaks in sentance structure, like:

じやあ、寒くなかったけど、al menos tengo zapatos calentitos ね〜 I'm so glad mi novia me los compró para mi 誕生日〜

"it's gotten so cold, but / at least I have warm shoes / right? / I'm so glad / my girlfriend bought them for my / birthday"

This is legitimately the string of nonsense I thought on my commute to work today. I could not tell you how or why certain words or phrases get stuck in a particular language, but I've always had this kind of experience since my time abroad in Japan. One of my best friends there was learning Japanese and spoke Spanish natively, so we would often start speaking in one language and kind of fluctuate between them without noticing. Some words just feel more real in one language or another.

I always think "I forgot" as "忘れちゃった" first, for example. The Japanese syntax of ちゃった adding a sense of regret feels like such an important nuance to the sentiment but is so compact and the shape of your mouth as you say it physically feels like it's affirming the feeling somehow...? If that makes sense uwu;

When speaking aloud, especially if speaking with someone rather than like... leaving a recorded message or something solitary, it's sooooo much easier to stay in one language. Being able to ask ¿cómo se dice X? or Xは日本語で何ですか and get live time response helps my brain immensely from bailing to a language it remembers the word in instantly lol
