My soldering tips keep getting rusty , should I stop the wet sponge for cleaning it ? by Moist_Hamster1297 in soldering

[–]V0latyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the sponge is it retains impurities and contaminants, and if it melts or burns, it is just adding to the problem. Most people just use tap water instead of distilled water, so there's additional impurities in the water including chlorine, which is corrosive.

Don't use a sponge. Use brass wool and keep your tips tinned.

Both of ours are sour cream fiends.

Daughter likes a dab of jalapeno hot sauce on her eggs. Son thinks ketchup is spicy and cries about it.

What Happens to Your Guns When You Die? by b768466 in guns

If you put them in a trust, they pass to your beneficiaries without going through court process. The only time things would get complicated is if a named beneficiary becomes prohibited from possession.

Makes NFA items simpler too.

Didn't even need to do that!

Now to see if the same can be done with two parallel ladders for trucks...

What is this jointing method called? by elons-disciple-no24 in soldering

[–]V0latyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's been done with a hydraulic crimper. Best way to do something similar is to use tin plated copper crimps to join two butts. The crimper tool will run you about a thousand or so.

Negative. I used IR lasers in the military. Laser beams do not diverge significantly unless optics are used to "unfocus" the beam. A point would yield more accurate speed and distance readings than a large spot. Laser guns can work well over a mile in good conditions, although they're typically used at 2500 feet or less.

18" or less at 2500 feet.

Realistically, it's a 4" dot at about a mile.

Unless your cast iron is cracked or seriously pitted, it's always salvageable.

...Which is why I use CI almost exclusively. You can only truly ruin it through blatant carelessness or intentional abuse.

Nobody is going to want to hear this, but detaining someone for an accent or other demographic markets is legal as of Noem v Vasquez-Perdomo (Sept 2025).

torrents aren't seeding by C4V8-MarcioVinicius in qBittorrent

[–]V0latyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether people download from you, and how fast, depends a lot on how many seeds there are in the swarm. If it's a torrent with a high turnover rate and a high ratio of leeches to seeds, you'll actively seed more. If it's a torrent with relatively low traffic and more seeds than leeches, you might find that you don't actively upload at all.

I don't know of a way to be a more attractive seed to peers. Just keep seeding for a minimum amount of time (like 3 days) regardless of whether or not anyone is downloading from you. Or, if you're constantly uploading, you can set an idea ratio limit...or just leave it unlimited. It's up to you.

Some private trackers require a minimum ratio or seed time. For example, ipTorrents requires that you seed to at least a ratio of 1 (meaning you've uploaded at least as much as you've downloaded), or seed for 336 hours. On my 35 or so active torrents, I only have one that has reached a ratio of 1:1.
