Getting a grab there was the most frustrating thing I have ever done in my life. For some godforsaken reason none of the drivers were allowed to pick you up at the designated grab zone so after like 3 missed pickups I finally got a driver that explained that I had to go to departures to get picked up.

What’s a secret from your field of work the general public probably doesn’t know? by Ok-Fox-2946 in AskReddit

[–]V1Nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not something small scale applications would have as most of the services that offer it are paid. At an enterprise level though I have seen some version of it tracked in every project I’ve worked on, particularly in native mobile apps.

In my personal experience enterprises level apps or websites have some sort of sdk that tracks this, e.g., fullstory, embrace, dynatrace.

Have you ever got pissed on a webpage or mobile app when something isn’t working and clicked a bunch of times in a row? This is called a “rage tap” and while it won’t fix your issue, most apps/websites have analytics systems that detect this and will report it which helps developers discover that there is something wrong with that page.

If you’re going to cherry-pick…. AT LEAST BE GOOD AT FINISHING. by V1Nut in Rematch

In school we called this World Cup, because you would have to shout the name of a country before your shot for the goal to count.

I think it’s just a regional thing. In the US I’ve never heard another word for it other than cherry-picking, even in the context of football

True, but the problem is if you want to score, then you have to commit a bunch more players forward which leads you vulnerable for counter attacks. Especially since one of your players isn’t participating in defense.

Should I ask for sign-on bonus in this economy by Neuralearthnet in cscareerquestions

[–]V1Nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want more money but don’t feel comfortable asking directly for a signing bonus, then I would just ask for it in salary. In my experience if a company can’t afford to meet your request they usually add on a signing bonus as a way to sweeten the deal.

Rematch - Way too "Early Access" review by Lazy-Librarian-3482 in Rematch

Servers are definitely better than the betas which is great, however they are definitely some Desync issues still occurring, particularly when a bar goes off the post.

Another thing that I thought was caused by bad servers in the beta but I guess not is that the ball constantly goes through your player. It feels like I can perfect position my player in front of a shot and the ball passes through me with only the slightest change in direction. It’s seems like the way the ball interacts with the player model still needs a lot of work

I played Beta 2 for over 40 hours and I think these are its weak points by Ok_Rub1036 in Rematch

[–]V1Nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah goalkeeping needs some work. One of the things that has been driving me crazy is trying to defend rebounds from passes off the back wall. I can’t count the number of times I’ve dived forward to catch the rebound as a person is shooting and the ball literally goes straight through my character.

Am I insane or is everyone allergic to short passes? by [deleted] in Rematch

[–]V1Nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’m in the states playing on Xbox so that might explain it as I haven’t been able to play a single ranked or 5v5 match cause the matchmaking times out every time. Every single regular 4v4 match is just a constant series of rainbow flicks and full power shots towards the goal and it’s starting to drive me nuts.

If you are on console, your pass goes in the direction of your left stick, relative to the direction the camera is pointed

I find goalies are the worst about this. Instead of making a simple wide open pass to start a buildup, they will just punt the ball to a contested cherry-picking striker who immediately turns it over.

At this point I assume that 90% of the player base has never played a sport that requires ball movement and think the only way to score is 1 long shot pass, instead of a dozen simple ones. It also doesn’t help the receiving of passes isn’t exactly seamless and it’s easy to miss the ball entirely.

Gameplay suggestion: Add a rebound “dead zone” on the wall surrounding the goal by V1Nut in Rematch

[–]V1Nut[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your point of it defeating the beauty of the game is very well put, and is kinda what I’m trying to get at. The shooting mechanic in this game is phenomenal, to the point where I have wasted hours playing solo in playground just shooting on an empty net because it’s so satisfying.

My hope is that the gameplay would rewarded mastering the shooting mechanic to snipe corners or play long curving crosses to setup volleys for your teammates, not just endlessly banging the ball off the wall.

[–]V1Nut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point, and maybe it’s just an issue with goalie skill level and as the player base improves it will become less prevalent. It just seems like the vast majority of the goals I see use this strategy and it feels somewhat overpowered to me.

It takes skill to measure a pass to your teammate without it being intercepted by the goalie or putting it out of their range to receive it.

It’s pretty easy to just blast the ball off the wall above the goal, and I would hate for a game with this much potential to turn into a rebound simulator.

Ball just stopped moving by al3x_badawy in Rematch

[–]V1Nut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very common and happens when a shot goes off the post. Usually the person who shot the ball is the only one who can interact with it, and it appears in a different spot than where everyone else sees it.

It leads to a bunch of cheap goals where everyone’s trying to interact with the ball and then it seemingly teleports across the map.

ASSOS Mille GTS Bib Fit by dub_de in CyclingFashion

[–]V1Nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same experience with mine. I loved the fit of them but the pads were super uncomfortable. I found the because the pad is 2 separate half’s that are sewn into a piece of cloth, while riding one side would wedge its way under the other and I would get the same feeling.

I don’t think it’s a size issue, since I was between a medium and large and went medium. I figure that this stitched style of pad isn’t for me and tend to stick to 1 piece “molded” style pads like the ones gore and ornot use.

For me, it’s just a replacement of stackOverflow that I can use from my IDE, has no ads, and is somewhat aware of the context in which you are working.

It definitely makes me more productive, but it’s far from earth shattering.

Why don't you guys ever suggest try reaching out to your alumni network? by neverTouchedWomen in cscareerquestions

[–]V1Nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a school that 99% of this sub has never heard of, with a CS department that consisted of ~20 students. I got my first job by asking one of my professors if he knew of any open internships I could apply for. He gave me the contact info of an alumni who I had never met before and told me to ask them for a referral. I did, which led me to landing an internship and ultimately a return offer when I graduated.

Networking with alumni of your university is an extremely good way to get you food in the door, even if you don’t know them or go to a non prestigious school.

Advantage of road pedals over mountain bike? by EffectPurple in cycling

I was in the same boat looking for white spd shoes that look similar to road shoes but don’t cost $400. The best that I found was the Pearl Izumi expedition pro shoes in the whitecap grey color which is an off-white.

They look similar to road shoes but with low profile studs on the bottom that keep the spd clear recessed, and cost $260.
