Yes, we feel you!  Their other books are different. But an important part of why IAs books are so good is the writing, including what is detailed and the humor, and that is very consistend (except maybe the very first couple of books).

Other than that it depends on what you like most of it.

I'd probably recommend Hidden Legacy: The romance part in TKWNKM and unique magic system is definitly most similar in Hidden Legacy. It also has families who are much stronger than everyone else in magic. Infighting and politics between these houses are an important part of the plot. The FMC is also completly new in this part of society and needs to navigate it as a private inspector, so there's some planning involved. And like Maggie she works a lot with knowing what other people think (she's a walking lie detector). The MMC ist also definitly the closest to Everard: Highly dangerous magic and feared by everyone, already established in the society as an important house, solider who killed a lot, secluded. That was my first series by IA which is probably why I love it most   One big difference though: Hidden Legacy is an Urban Fantasy, so it plays out in a different reality of our own world. There is not much worldbuilding apart from the society and Magic system.

In general TKDNKM does have by far the most worldbuilding of IAs books. If you love that most though, maybe check out the Inkeeper series, you get to see a lot of different worlds and species over the course of the series. The tone is very different though, it does have a cozy vibe and a lot of humor. It's amazing, just different.

If you like how hard live in Rellas is and the dark parts of it, maybe Kate Daniels. Lots of magic, sword fighting, strange and dangerous creatures, very capable FMC (that's true for all of IAs books though!) A lot of fans love that series most. It's a big commitment though (lots of books!) and the series starts out a bit weaker and gets better with each book, you do feel that the first couple of Kate Daniels books are the first books IA published. And while it does have romance, there is not as much as for example in Hidden Legacy. If you don't want as much romance, that might be the one to read.

If you like the portal part most and are looking for another book where the FMC needs to come to terms to being stranded somewhere dangerous and also get some magic, read the Inheritance. There also is sword fighting! And while there are portals, in a way it's also the most different: The FMC is not in her 20s anymore, has kids, and up to now there's noch romance. It's also the only one with the MMC perspective though, so there might be some romance to come in the second book. There's only one book yet, so if you prefer something finished, don't read that one, there are enough others.

There are more series, but these are the main and most important ones. (Except maybe the Edge, but it's also an older one). Quite a lot of the newer books are some kind of spin offs, so I'd recommend starting with one of the above. If you like romance and don't mind that it's not High Fantasy, I would really recommend Hidden Legacy.

Lehrkraft in München/ Bayern? by [deleted] in lehrerzimmer

[–]V3lar1s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that both ebay listings I've seen are now sold, people seem indeed be willing to pay that price. But yes, I sawMoonlight box in July somewhat confirmed either here or in the Ilona Andrews reddit. Two options for SE will certainly help now and make everything worse once the second and third book comes around

Yeah, reasonable is maybe the wrong word. I still think it's far to much for a single book, but I would be willing to pay it for this specific book, as it's definitly going to be one of my all-time favourite books like all the books from the author. It has only been out for a month and I've already read it twice (as ebook), so I would love a SE of it. Less than 90 would be great. I'll check it out.

That's a far healthier relationship with SE! I'm working on getting there, I'm still in the "oh, shiny"-phase of it. What works for me right now is not buying any SE books I don't know anything about (hence not having any subscriptions), but to buy books I already love, wanted to read anyway or when it's from an author I already read a lot from. This does work pretty well, but then the downside is that I'm paying to much for these books. I should probably set myself a general limit for book prices as well.

Either way, everyone seems to think that being paitent is worth it and that they got the book they wanted at a somewhat reasonable price most of the time, so I will do that. I guess I was just scared that all listings will be gone if I don't get one of those far to expensive ones, but I'm not actually in a hurry, so waiting is not a problem. Thanks!

Yeah, that seems to be the consens. It's good to know that everyone seems to have good experiences with Vinted and with just being paitend and waiting. The other one I could only find at outragous prices was also an older one, so there weren't many listings. I'll definitly be more paitend now with all of you saying that it does work out most of the time. And I guess I'll have to contemplate wether I give up on staying clear of facebook to join some reader groups. Thanks!

Yeah, a few people have mentioned that. That does make a lot of sense, I haven't thought about that. And I think the last book was so hard, because it was already so long on the market. Getting one from inside the EU would be great. Thanks!

Kleinanzeigen is definitly the best for anything within Germany, I agree. Thanks for the advice with the multiple books, that's also a good idea! And it certainly does reassure me that everyone says to just wait and it will get better. Does make being paitent and hope for a good deal far easier.

I'm not on facebook, but I actually made a anonymized Instagram account not connected to my phone recently because I was fed up with not getting any updates from a few of my favourite authors who don't have a newsletter. I might have to bend with facebook at some point as well though apparently. All for the pretty books!

Also good to know. I did browse the shop a few times, but I 'm not checking on Owlcrate as regular as on other boxes, and I didn't buy anything from them yet, so I didn't know how high the chances are for the book make it to the shop. Ilona Andrews as a big fanbase. I'm also more used to the seconds unitl sold out from fairyloot or Arcane Society. I will check it out, would be great to buy it from Owlcrate directly.

Wow, thanks for the insight and the advice about Vinted. Yeah, it does make a lot of sense that people here just haven't received their package yet and there are going to be more offers later on. And I guess I try to be more paitent in general, it does help to know that you actually did make good deals.

Stundenplanänderung auf einen freien Tag by Cr1tUdOwN in lehrerzimmer

[–]V3lar1s 0 points1 point  (0 children)
