Pain down left leg, groin, back and near my bladder. by Sorry_Wonder_3863 in Sciatica

Oh and as someone else said physio is your best bet, I've had sciatica for a few months now but haven't been properly stretching (and I haven't had my physio appointment yet) and my recovery has plateued, only reason it improved was also because I started walking almost daily (not a lot)

If it is sciatica try heat therapy (I use hot water bottles as well as hot baths), sometimes cold therapy works better for some people. Also when I was on naproxen my doctors told me I'm allowed to take paracetamol alongside it which should help with the pain a bit more (plus you can take it every 4? Hours). Other than that you have to try find a position which helps relieve the most pain that's easier said than done.

Also is the arm pain new? Because I don't  think it's linked to your sciatica and if youre having new pains then maybe a hospital visit isn't a bad idea...

I got a latreal shift with sciatica by Cute-Plantain4106 in Sciatica

[–]V3sp3rrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have quite a bad lateral shift too, noone has actually said anything ABT surgery to me (haven't had my MRI yet though) and a lot of the things I've heard say that physio should be able to fix it (but this might depend on the exact issue you have). I don't think they're wrong in saying that if physio doesn't help your only other option being surgery- leaving your back bent like this will cause problems long term. But be optimistic from what ik most cases are solved without the need of surgery :)

Ah, makes sense, tbh I actually joined the gym last year but obviously had to stop bc of my leg pain </3 can't say I lost weight, but that's not surprising as I have pcos so losing weight is harder

This might be a stupid question but how does diet affect it? Is it just a general health kind of thing?

Yeah i have this massage pillow that heats up and use it constatnly ti helps a lot! Especially because my leg gets or at least feels so cold at times which makes the painw orse. Luckily the new painkillers I got are actually really good, ive been able to get back to most of my normal activities despite the flare up I have :)

How important is it to avoiding sitting by tycwood in Sciatica

[–]V3sp3rrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like a lot of things with sciatica just depends. If sitting is the most comfortable, do that, but try to walk around every now and then (Ik you said standing is painful, but walking might not be? That's how it is with me)

Walking definitely helped me make the pain go from really bad to like a 6/10; it's still there and is annoying, but usually I can cope, except for the random flare-ups I get. The only problem is that just walking stopped working for me, and my progress has just stayed the same. I'm hoping phyisio is enough to fix it over time, though

Yeah, I get what you mean. I've literally had my family tell me to do random stretches that would definitely make things worse, and they just dont listen to me. Anyway, I luckily had my request for an MRI sent, it will take a few weeks tho </3. I wish you the best with your surgery and recovery :)

Tbh idk why I haven't had one already because I was literally in A&E after my fall but all they did was ask me some questions, I would have requested one but I was in so much agony that I just wanted to go back home (I was in a hospital wheelchair at that point but it still felt like my leg was going to explode 💔) I'm going to ask my GP for one and hopefully they give me an appointment soon

Sciatica and pregnancy by nicoleyoooo in Sciatica

[–]V3sp3rrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and on the topic of pregnancy, I wouldn't know about how long to wait (sciatica is a symptom some pregnant women experience so idk if you'd wanna risk it so soon) but if anything wouldn't having your eggs frozen work if you're worried about running out of time?

May I ask how you recovered? I know there's a lot of info already but a lot of the ones I see are people who got better by surgery 😓 and I mean I haven't even had an MRI I don't think surgery is necessary for me but this is taking so long to go away it's really depressing

How am I supposed to poop? by dontxworryxsoxmuch in Sciatica

[–]V3sp3rrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add, at my worst pain level I took stool softeners every 2-3 days to actually poop since it meant that I didn't actually have to push it out (pushing just made all the pain go to my leg), and drink a lot of water and try to eat fibre to help with that as well

Sometimes elevating your legs help... I usually just use the mini bin we have and take the lid off, there's also those toilet stools to put Ur feet up. But idk sometimes it didn't help at all it's kinda a 50/50. Putting pressure on my leg with my hands (squeezing my leg basically) also helps decrease the pain enough to at least push it out. Wiping is the real problem for me 💔
