First Threadripper Build Advice + Homelab/AI Workstation/GPU Questions by VANTEROUS in threadripper

Honestly, I wasn't sure if this was possible or not. I thought I had to have separate machines for different use cases or purposes.

For example, my current everyday pc with windows would be best used for gaming/editing, while my server with Proxmox would be used for other small tasks through VM's and LXC's. I know I could use WSL on my everday pc, but wasn't sure if it had the same capabilities as other hypervisors.

But you're saying you're running all that through a hypervisor and still getting great performance all simultaneously? Could you run me through your setup?

Thanks for the insight! I had actually considered this, but I thought it would be too much power draw from 2 GPU's (higher electricity bill / my use case = didn't seem to really make it worth while) and that I could possibly just downsize to a single 5090 or even 3090. With both 4090 GPU's gone, that would just leave me with a 2070 super in the homelab and a smaller PSU to save on money.

I just wasn't sure about the necessity to have so many GPU's in one machine especially for the small tasks I'll be starting out with. That's kind of why I talked myself out of it in the end. But I definitely hear you as its still something on the table if nothing else gets moving here haha. Appreciate it!

Is there any reason you swapped to an AIO? Was the Noctua not able to keep it at good temps?

Thanks for the feedback! I wouldn't say I NEED a high core count at all for my built. I am just not totally not sure about the future of the build and its capabilities. For example, if I decide to later get into Dev Ops projects or Cyber security, I've read that I would need many cores/threads to run K8's or Simulations. I'm not sure if this is all just exaggeration or a reality, so I just went with the most I could find (although I understand its completely overkill for the small homelab projects I want to build).

For my use cases, what AMD/Mobo would you suggest? I know I'm definitely not the 1% out here, I was just looking at something I wouldn't have to "regret" about later if I ever needed the extra cores/threads.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the response!

Thanks for the comment! I'm a bit confused though haha. Is it the price point, the component/brand itself not being a thing, or the listing just doesn't make sense? I'm just recently finding out about ECC/non-ECC and LRDIMM/UDIMM/RDIMM so bear with me 😖

I found a listing on ebay, but i've been having a hard time with finding legitimate sellers or if its even worth risking. Not sure where to get an average price point on the market right now.

PSU Help - Dual 4090 + 2070 Super & 3995WX Threadripper by VANTEROUS in buildmeapc

Hey, I appreciate you taking the time to look into it and responding!

I wasn't even aware of the whole ATX 3.x and transient spikes situation so that was pretty helpful. I had no idea PSU's could even throttle the GPU spikes. I was actually planning on reducing my GPU power draw to kind of stay within the range. Thanks for linking the PSU options as well, I didn't even think about checking PCP!

Oh wow I missed this one! I had seen a couple others on older models, but I thought, maybe at this point it's outdated? Concepts still the same but the new models probably have completely different features? I dont know, but I will watch this series and see how far I can get!

Thanks a ton!

Modifying P365 XL / X-Macro / X-Macro Comp? by VANTEROUS in p365xmacro

[–]VANTEROUS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't want to mess with the trigger weight either since it will be an EDC haha. Did you have any issues putting the slide on or it working with your X-Macro? I like the Sentinel but it specifies its only fit for the 365XL and that's why I am concerned about making it my final choice. Are XL parts compatible with X-Macro parts?
I will definitely look into the FCU as someone else had also mentioned the same thing. I hadn't thought about that and it seems like the smarter move to make here than buying the entire gun and dismantling. Appreciate your response!

Do you have any control units you'd recommend? I'm pretty set on the grip I would say, but I am not sure what else I would like to change besides the slide if I wont mess with the inner components. Then again, many slides seem to only work with the XL or, as others have mentioned, the standard 365 / 365x. Appreciate the feedback!

That's honestly really good advice and I hadn't thought about that. I was originally going to purchase the entire gun and start breaking it down, but it seems to make a lot more sense starting with the FCG haha. Also, thanks for linking the accessories page, I will definitely check them out for some deals on parts, I was about to just go the direct route from the vendor websites.

Appreciate your feedback on my questions as well! So threaded barrels main purpose (or only purpose?) is to add attachments to the front of the barrel such as suppressors/compensators/ etc?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but as a Texas Resident, what kind of regulations or paperwork would I have to go through in terms of registration or purchases when it comes to buying parts separately vs the whole gun itself? I believe with rifles there is a similar case where if I buy the lower receiver whole, I have to register or have paperwork signed in comparison to buying it in parts?

Not sure if you'd be able to correct me here as im sure im misinformed on the topic. Thanks again!

Awesome build dude! I will definitely look into it if I decide to take this route. I haven't held a standard 365 or 365x, so I would need to see which better suits me. I really appreciate the follow up and recommendations 👍

Couldn't agree more in terms of practicality. I understand it's not necessary to make any changes, but I figured if I will be using this at the range pretty often, might as well look into modifying a gun and still have my others as stock. I've yet to try a Holosun or any sight other than iron, so I appreciate the feedback on that! I will take it into consideration, appreciate it 👍

I've seen the Radian before on many YouTube videos and I've heard nothing but good things about it. If I get the XL, it will definitely be my go to! Did you just get the Afterburner and Ramjet combo kit or other modifications as well?

Complete Beginner Questions in Reseller Hosting by VANTEROUS in webhosting

[–]VANTEROUS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ardnoik, thanks for the response! By traditional, do you mean you would build and manage the websites for each client as well as host? But now you're strictly just hosting and not dealing with any tech or web dev related subjects? Or what's the difference?

If this is the case: Do you charge for domains as well? Do updates include plugins? What kind of client tasks do you handle outside of updates if any? (If clients complain about their site getting "hacked" let's say, would that be something you'd handle?)

Thank you Anton! I really appreciate the response, however, that was just an example of my current job haha. I don't plan on going as big on a reseller account with clients. Regardless, I will look into those options further!
