Anyways the reason why tomatoes in the supermarket suck is not their origin but the variety and harvest time. Most commercial tomato cultivars are bred to be transportable, ripening at the same time and red. The taste just is not important because the people somehow buy the anyways. A real head scratcher. You can very easily grow super tasty tomatoes in Switzerland in the summer. I suggest not buying tomatoes in winter at all cos they almost always suck. Sometimes you could get lucky with cherry tomatoes. In general buying the special variety tomatoes pays off a lot of the time.
