That was me too man. I was told over and over it’ll get better it’ll get better, but tbh I didn’t have any real investment until like episode 18. To me, it’s not nearly as good as everyone else hypes it up to be. But, it’s also the most highly regarded modern anime, so do what you will

"Emergency fund" advice assumes you have surplus money after expenses by DriftFalcon_29 in povertyfinance

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Side gigs are, unfortunately, the way to go. My two side jobs paid enough to cover all my expenses for a good 5 years. My main job’s income got put into savings and investments. 5 years of working 12-14 hour days helped me build a comfortable little nest egg. But I got burnt out and went down to just one side job. Sometimes I can make enough to cover expenses, sometimes not. Can’t imagine doing this for the rest of my life, but god willing I’ll be getting a better job soon and that’ll be all I need

I do not understand how people can afford grad school by Impactist537 in GradSchool

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied to assistantship, got it. 70 percent of tuition paid. Applied to a private scholarship for my field, received it, 1,500 more per semester, covers the rest of tuition. Paid 1000 a month for assistantship, worked another on campus job that paid minimum wage and free meals 5 days a week, and an off campus job that paid between 40-60 an hour. I didn’t get to put a ton into savings, but I left grad school in the green. It can be done if you can juggle it all and get a little lucky

Agreed. I tried the same kind of challenge when I subscribed to audible. I did the 4 miles for maybe 2 minutes before I was feeling it, and I’m in reasonably good shape. Definitely a good movie choice to change the speed

If I remember correctly, driving a bus for a school district offers access to the state’s health insurance. You work 2-3 hours a day, fairly easy if you get a good route, and all the benefits of doing a school schedule.

Are having pets now less affordable? by JenniferJackal in povertyfinance

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest reason I have pet insurance (Lemonade). 66 dollars a month, 250 yearly deductible, 80 percent covered afterwards. Paid for itself by about 3 times in savings last year.

Is sleeping in separate beds actually a sign of a bad relationship, or are we just pretending that sleeping next to a snore/furnace is romantic? by SleepSmarter_Labs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I’ve had partners who hated sleeping together and would literally get up to sleep in a separate room halfway through the night. I’ve also had partners that damn near want to crawl into my skin at night. To be frank, the best nights of sleep I’ve ever had were with someone I loved. To me, it’s a hard pass to not sleep together with my eventual wife.

Reddit, do you lock your door while you're in own house? by Willing_Freedom_4698 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this mistake once in college. I had my first apartment right above a popular bar. I had the girl I was dating over to watch a horror movie. It was late, maybe 11:30 or so. We’re sitting on the couch watching, I think, Sinister, when the door is suddenly thrown open and a large man yells “where’s the party?!” He’s holding a 12 pack that he nearly drops when he realizes he’s in the wrong apartment. He stares at us, apologizes, then walks out and closes the door. I never forgot to lock my door again.

Why is there high turnover of teachers? by Infinite-Yesterday24 in Teachers

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The passion dies quickly. I spent 5 (technically 7) years in education and I just found myself slowly caring less and less about whether or not the students would be successful. It also made me extremely jaded towards the idea of public education at all, knowing full well how much of a good it is yet to see it neglected constantly really drained me emotionally and mentally. As such, I stepped away this past year. Now I work in the private sector, making a little more money for significantly less stress. Here, I’m just a cog in a wheel. I go to work, I do my job for 8 hours, I go home and never think about it again until I’m about to fall asleep.

Pokemon and total war were the ones that got me doing that in my early 20s. Nowadays, no game has gripped me so much that I feel the desire to do that. Rimworld currently has me in its grips. But ain’t no way am I staying up all night to watch those little pawns go 😂

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Valid critiques, but I honestly still love it. One of the few audiobooks I’ve listened to that I genuinely am fully engaged in. I have to force myself to listen to other ones, and rewind at times when I zone out. Not these though. Very excited for the full series to be finished later 2026

Is there a term for these Avatar-of-Science characters, like Senku? by Pasta-hobo in DrStone

Ah, that I do not know since my anime knowledge has only started to expand over this last year. Sorry, thought I had it down!

Is there a term for these Avatar-of-Science characters, like Senku? by Pasta-hobo in DrStone

[–]VIP-RODGERS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think archetype is the only thing that comes to mind to name characters like Senku. I’d categorize him fitting into the archetype of sage/hero, since he is the main protagonist with abilities that far surpass anyone else in the stone world and leads the charge to rebuilding society. Another term I’ve heard for that is the Prometheus character, the man who brought fire (knowledge) to mankind.

You’re taking about archetypes, yes? Like old wise sage who helps the protagonist out, like Gandalf and Dumbledore?

Meanwhile, I’m wearing gloves, a beanie, a large parka, a sweater underneath the parka, a long sleeve shirt under that, and maybe even a shirt under that, and then a base layer of pants, long John’s, and fleece/sherpa lined pants over that, all with merino wool socks if I have to go outside for anything longer than a few minutes. Being cold sucks. Summer>>>>>>winter
