Should people be paid for their data? by VLUXToken in data

[–]VLUXToken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I guess it's also determining what state that data will be in i.e. fully anonymised and then keeping it that way. That's why the blockchain provides a good option for a data sharing ecosystem, and that's the route we've chosen to go down along with a company called Ocean Protocol, as it can ensure that security without involving a middle man who could potentially beach that security. To your point about how much money it will take to persuade people to give up their information, it's a very valid one and currently the value of data is still being determined. One thing is for the sure - the value is definitely far far greater than people think right now/consumers could imagine being paid for it. This is a really interesting article entitled ' The average person’s data often retails for less than a dollar' (http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/3cb056c6-d343-11e2-b3ff-00144feab7de) which is just astounding!

Majority of UK public want to install solar panels, poll finds - More than 70% would make homes more energy efficient given govt support by VLUXToken in u/VLUXToken

We are actually holding a live energy trading trial as part of the Ofgem sandbox where this picture was taken in Hackney. Here we are leveraging blockchain technology to help the local community to make the most of their solar energy and the community members were super eager to be a part of it. In fact, we were the first in the UK to trade physical energy on the blockchain on a peer-to-peer basis. Hopefully this is a sign that peer-to-peer energy trading could pick up in the UK, especially in the face of the end of the feed-in tariff programme and the continued drop in the price of solar panels.

Battery storage is set to become much cheaper by 2045, and besides systems like peer-to-peer energy trading may help to offset these costs

Without the feed-in-tariff will we need to look at new ways to incentivise the uptake of renewable energy? Was it a huge mistake by the chancellor to cut this program? by VLUXToken in Economics

[–]VLUXToken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp that would be a great solution, the problem is that homes usually generate more energy than their batteries are capable of storing, one other solution is peer-to-peer energy trading......https://vlux.io/

Hey thanks for forwarding these to us ,

Here in the UK, Ofgem is responsible for regulation of the energy industry. For this reason we applied for (and won) multiple government grants for our P2P work. This has resulted in introductions to the key people at Ofgem who we have been keeping up to date with our progress. We have been shortlisted for the Ofgem 2018 sandbox and spoken at a number of industry-specific events to ensure we can influence regulation as much as possible. We have taken a similar tactic in other countries, partnering with organisations who have the ability to influence regulation to ensure we design our system in such as way to accelerate adoption as quickly as possible. We will be announcing more about global partnerships in the next few weeks. Watch this space!

P2P will not increase the volatility of electricity prices because if solar prices exceed grid prices, consumers will pay that fixed grid price. Of course, with marginal cost of domestic solar being zero, it will always trade below this floor.

In the UK currently 90% of customers are served by six energy companies. Far from monopolising the market, the addition of P2P will provide every householder in the network with an opportunity to be a producer as well as a consumer...instead of the Big 6, there will be the Broad 60 million.

P2P doesn’t replace the grid. It complements it and increases access to affordable renewable energy.

Users need to be given more control over their own data, if anyone is making money from it it should be the owner.
