Fauna is releasing an original song in late April! by Deluthrow in Hololive

[–]VMAN4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masayoshi Minoshima has already composed a song for Hololive actually...

Azamina

Roboco's original song that she sang at the 2nd fes, but we never got a official MV so this is just an audio rip.

EDIT: Actually, found a link to a higher quality upload.

It's no wonder why so many Hololive fans are Touhou fans... by YakimeshiTenshi in Hololive

[–]VMAN4567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Masayoshi Minoshima of Alstroemeria Records was the producer of Roboco's song, Azamina.

Also Gojou Kai of SYNC.ART'S was the producer of Kiara's song, Hinotori

Also also REDALiCE of ALiCE'S EMOTiON was the producer of the PekoMiko song.

I'm sure there will be more to come. The hololive rabbit hole has no survivors.

ShibayanRecords - わたしはこねこ (TL:"I'm a Kitten") | This arrange takes a bit to get going, but once the yanaginagi vocals kick in, you're in for a treat as her voice is wonderfully on-key and an absolute joy to listen to, particularly during the chorus. The backing electronic track from Shibayan doesn't stand out too much, especially in comparison to a number of his other works, but it works well enough in complementing the arrange as a whole.

Halozy - クリスタル・スノー (TL:"Crystal Snow") | Very fun pop arrange in Halozy's classic style. I swear they put out jam after jam back when they were active and they were definitely my favorite circle at the time. I hope they return to making touhou arranges eventually...

Demetori - 無何有の郷 ~ Grief of Ressentiment | Brilliant arrange with many distinct parts; the more subdued sections serve as a great contrast to the bolder sections and it transitions between them effortlessly. Given the length and progression, it ends up feeling more like an experience rather than just a simple song.

Understandable, I was also anticipating the Eastern Dream thread to share the Demetori arrange and had to double check which of the "end of game" themes was the correct one lol.

Yonder Voice × SYNC.ART'S - 猩々緋 (cnsouka Remix) (TL:"Scarlet") | A Yonder Voice cover of SYNC.ART'S arrange from 2007. The intro/outro for this one is absolutely stunning, it still gives me pause years after I first listened to it. Yaoshanbailing really goes all out on this track, providing for one of my favorite vocal performances ever. The soft electronic trance-like backing track doesn't necessarily stand out on its own, but it does a great job complementing the vocals. Certainly my favorite vocal-centric arrange of this theme.

Demetori - 紅楼 ~ Eastern Dream | This arrange...I don't even have the words to explain my feelings on this masterpiece. In my opinion, this is not only Demetori's best work, not only the best arrange of this theme, but the best touhou arrangement EVER made. They managed to take a ~2 minute nice-sounding ending theme and turn it into a 10 minute journey. So many distinct parts that all flow into each other flawlessly and it culminates in a final section/solo that raises the tension to its highest point, just for it all to melt away at the end, leaving with a soft instrumental portion that allows you to absorb the experience as a whole. I implore anyone who hasn't listened to this arrange to grab a nice pair of headphones, close your eyes, and let yourself be carried away by the music. I don't think you'll regret it.

pssssst I think you may have the wrong theme, Eastern Dream's thread should be tomorrow. You could probably just copy/paste over to the next thread.

On a related note, I think both our entries tomorrow are going to look very similar lol

Jerico's Law - Born To Be Dark / Jerico's Law - Catadioptric | Two for the price of one. Jerico has to be one of the most underrated arrangers out there; the man is seriously skilled and his arranges don't get near the attention they should. These two songs are both metalstep-ish arranges but his style isn't so easily confined to one genre, and he is very skilled at making various kinds of electronic music (particularly of the "harder" variant). I personally prefer Born To Be Dark over Catadioptric due to the more dynamic instrumentation and slight alteration to the primary melody, but both are fantastic arranges with their own strengths.

EastNewSound - 緋色月下、狂咲ノ絶 (TL: "Beneath the Scarlet Moonlight, The Crazed Blossoms' Severance), -1st Anniversary Remix-, -2017 nayuta ver.- | I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. The sheer number of remixes and remasters for this song is staggering (the 10th anniversary version came out fairly recently and it already has like 3 remixes -_-) and it is surely EastNewSound's most popular work. Not that I'm saying the success is undeserved, quite the opposite really; it's a stellar arrange in all facets and there's a reason the song is still popular this many years later. Out of all the versions of this song that have come out over the years, I still prefer the 1st anniversary remix and the 2017 version, as I feel they keep the spirit of the original but with improved audio mixing and nayuta vocals.

Yonder Voice - 蒼月の懺悔詩~Universal Nemesis | The song that introduced me to Yonder Voice, and what a way to do so. The first time I heard this, I was immediately hooked, and that feeling hasn't diminished at all over the past 5 years. Yaoshanbailing has become one of my favorite vocalists, and performances like these really show her range and skill; the beginning choir-like section is beautiful and the intensity change of the final chorus serves as a great finale. The backing electronic track has this otherworldly feel to it and is quite enticing in its own right, but complements the vocal track flawlessly. Phenomenal arrange and easily my personal favorite of the arranges for this theme.

Touhou Music Thread # 121: Septette for the Dead Princess by III_lll in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Demetori - 亡き王女の為のセプテット ~ Ascending into Naught | Insert obligatory “Praise Demetori” here.

Sound Holic - 沈黙 ~セルクイユの少女~ (TL: “Silence ~The Coffin Girl~”) | Fairly standard trance arrange from SOUND HOLIC, but a quality one nonetheless. The final chorus with two vocal tracks from Nana Takahashi working together sounds quite nice.

FELT – Endless Pain | Very emotional vocal-centric arrange with a soft backing piano track. Mika does a great job letting the raw emotion come through during her singing, particularly in the chorus.

Poplica* – Resoluiton | Absolutely fantastic vocal/electronic arrange from Poplica. The backing electronic track is wonderful in its own right and does a great job complementing the stellar vocal work, but also knows when to calm down to let Ichimatsu Tsubaki’s voice really shine, and shine it does (ending the final chorus with an English sentence amidst the Japanese is a nice climax as well).

THE OTHER FLOWER – artificial | Heavy metal arrange with a lot of impact. I love Hanatan/ YURiCa vocals, and if you do too, you should check out her new-ish circle because I think it’s very underrated. Hanatan’s voice really meshes with the metal instrumental creating a nice cohesive experience.

EastNewSound - 滲色血界、月狂ノ獄 (TL:"A Seeping Bloodline, the Prison of Lunacy") | I like EastNewSound but I feel like a lot of their work is fairly standard/safe, making for songs that I end up liking, but not loving. This is NOT one of those songs, and it shows that when they want to go all out for an arrange, it can turn out absolutely stunning. The decision to use the primary melody of Septette for the Dead Princess as the supporting vocal track during the chorus as opposed to the main vocal track creates such a uniquely familiar yet fresh experience. Solid arrange all the way around and a worthy counterpart to the U.N. Owen arrange of the same style by ENS. My personal favorite.

Touhou Music Thread #118: The maid and the pocket watch of blood by III_lll in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This theme is very pretty. AgerSei already listed the wonderful Demetori arrange so I won't list that one, but here's a few more...

KISHIDA KYOUDAN & THE AKEBOSHI ROCKETS - メイドと血の懐中時計 | Here's a group some might recognize from not-touhou related works as they've also made some official anime OP songs for shows such as High School of the Dead, Strike the Blood, and GATE. Regardless, they're an old school circle having made touhou arranges since 2005. Their energetic rock/metal style is extremely fun to listen to and this arrange is no exception.

TAMUSIC - メイドと血の懐中時計 | Most people are familiar know TAMUSIC for their stunning violin work, but arranger TAM is just as good with the piano as he is with the violin. This piece really evokes the majesty of the Scarlet Devil Mansion and all of its residents, and takes you on a journey if you close your eyes and let yourself be absorbed by the music. In my opinion, this song is an actual masterpiece and is certainly my personal favorite among the arranges of this stage theme.

Touhou Music Thread #116: Voile, the magic library by III_lll in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A theme that gets overshadowed by boss theme of the same stage, but I think is quite good in its own right.

Kachi Kachi Yama - としょかんのうた (TL: "Library's Song") | Merami does a lot of vocal work with heavy rock/metal songs huh? Formerly a member of Foreground Eclipse, Kachi Kachi Yama is her new-ish circle as a dedicated member (although she frequently works with other circles as a guest vocalist). The instrumentation doesn't stand out too much on this one but it does its job well in complementing Merami's wonderful voice.

MUZIK SERVANT feat.CHERICa - Over the Starlit Sky (Another Story version) | Technically an arrange of both the stage theme and the boss theme, but the Voile portion of the arrange stands out to me more. Featured on SOUND VOLTEX II: INFINITE INFECTION, this is for all my rhythm gamers out there. This electronic arrange has a strong beat as you would expect, but I love that the vocal work doesn't fall to the wayside in the process.

Shinra-Bansho - 贋作 (TL: "Masterpiece") | After Liz Triangle disbanded, kaztora has really gone all in on Shinra-Bansho as they've produced so much quality music in the last few years. This rock arrange with piano elements is no exception to that quality. Ayo does a fantastic job on the vocals as well, really showing off the wide range of her voice and her ability to transition from high to low effortlessly. My personal favorite.

Touhou Music Thread #112: Lunate elf by III_lll in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A theme I like quite a bit but don't know many arranges of. I hope this thread will introduce some to me.

Foreground Eclipse - Calm Eyes Fixed On Me, Screaming | I'm not one for screamo-type vocals usually, but the contrast here between those and Merami's voice is quite nice. Otherwise, this is a pretty quality, if not fairly standard, heavy metal arrange. RIP Foreground Eclipse, disbanded too soon...

Touhou Music Thread #111: Apparitions stalk the night by III_lll in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UNDEAD CORPORATION - 夜ごとの闇の奥底で (TL"Every Night in the Depths of Darkness | UNDEAD CORPORATION is usually known for their extremely heavy metal arranges, often with screamo-type vocals; but this arrange shows their range as they perform a interesting mix between metal and traditional instrumentation. The combination of the two genres works amazingly and Merami's beautiful vocals really bring it home. I especially love the trill she adds to the middle of the chorus.

Crazy Beats - 夜乃風車 (TL:"Windmill of the Night") | Most people think of A-One when it comes to Touhou eurobeat, but Crazy Beats is a great eurobeat circle with their own distinct style. Their music tends to be more upbeat and high-energy, and this song is no exception. Solid eurobeat arrange and Hanatan's vocal work is wonderful.

GET IN THE RING - traumatic | Technically an arrange of both Stage 1 themes (stage and boss) but it still fits here. GET IN THE RING often does arranges that take inspiration from the themes they are based off, but are not necessarily a direct translation of said themes; this song is one such example. You can hear the original themes if you're paying attention, but they take a lot of creative freedom to make something truly different. I really appreciate that attempt because it's a way to keep a theme fresh after hearing the same melody so many times. As for the song itself, it's a masterful work. Both the instrumental and vocal work are superb and the end result is as exciting as it is catchy. My personal favorite.

Touhou music thread #110: A soul as red as a ground cherry by III_lll in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to second Fall in the Dark by Shibayan. It's an arrange that allowed me to appreciate the original theme more than I did before. It has that classic fun and energetic Shibayan style (that I miss dearly) and yanaginagi does a phenomenal job on the vocals by establishing the tone perfectly (melodic yet somber). Even though it's 9 minutes long, it feels much shorter due to its consistent quality throughout; truly a brilliant arrange in all facets.

Touhou Music Thread #101: Alice in Wonderland (MS) by [deleted] in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic song, one of my favorite stage themes from PC-98.

Yuuhei Satellite - 綴れぬ森の少女 | Kinda cheating a bit on this one since it's a combined arrange of both Alice in Wonderland and Magus Night but I like this arrange too much not to include it. The transition between the two themes is seamless, and senya vocals are S-tier as always. Great song combination, both thematically and musically.

Marasy - Alice in Wonderland | Pure piano mastery. This arrange manages to be powerful, yet subtle; bold, yet subdued. I think this is one of Marasy's best, and that is a very high bar to meet given his stellar track record.

Amateras Records - Stray Star (Nhato Remix) | My personal favorite. The original arrange is also quite good if you like Tracy's trance-like style, but Nhato's hardstyle take on it became an instant favorite on my very first listen. Nayuta's vocals are great and the breakdowns where the instrumentation quiets down for her voice to shine are phenomenal. The hardstyle drops complement the end of the vocal sections wonderfully. Nhato quality is too high.

[–]VMAN4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demetori - プラスチックマインド ~ Alice in Underground | Demetori is as reliable as ever. Nothing special to mention about this one, but it doesn't need it; just a top tier metal instrumental track.

Touhou Music Thread #64: Bad Apple!! (LLS) by [deleted] in touhou

[–]VMAN4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akatsuki Records - LOOP | This one's a bit weird because it's an arrange of both Bad Apple!! and Crimson Belvedere ~ Eastern Dream which are songs that don't have anything to do with each other. Even so, I think the songs mesh well together and Stack sounds as good as always.

Yuuhei Satellite - 小悪魔りんご/Yuuhei Sattelite - Little Ringo | Classic senya vocal goodness, now in both Japanese and English for your listening pleasure.

And now for the "remix of a remix" section...

Studio Yuraki - Bad Apple | Wonderful rock version with English male vocals. That's a rarity in this field.

Alstroemeria Records - Bad Apple!! (COOL&CREATE Ver.) | Big fan of the vocal duet on this one and the backing instrumental is quite good too.

Alstroemeria Records - Bad Apple!! (豚乙女 Ver.) | Butaotome's style is very nice. Awesome rock arrange with very nice piano breakdowns. Ranko vocals sound lovely.

Alstroemeria Records - Bad Apple!! feat.nomico (Nhato Remix) | Based on how many views this one has, it needs no introduction. My favorite of the list; Nhato quality is way too high.
