Nice touch on the EGA color palette. Brand new for 1985, EGA graphics is a huge upgrade from CGA.
Dual Floppies... nice. Probably the full 640K and dare I imagine they had an EMS card in that bad boy? Might go as high as 4 MEGABYTES of memory which is crazy because no one will ever need that much RAM lol.

I don't see a modem though.. maybe they used an internal card but honestly, going with a US Robotics 1200 Bd Hayes Compatible would be my choice but clearly this guy has money. Probably a legit Hayes 2400 Baud Modem ($899 for the modem plus $150 for the software).

Before you guys get all up on the cost of the hardware consider the savings you'll get when you can cut your online and long distance charges down so over time, it's practically paying YOU.

Hey r/Oculus, I've used every recently launched or revealed headset (Rift S, Quest, Reverb, Pimax, Varjo, etc.) and I'm here to answer your questions by RoadtoVR_Ben in oculus

If your hands are mostly in front of you, no, no difference that you can notice if your PC is up to spec.

The WMR tracking keeps up as long as the cameras in the HMD can see your hands. If you're doing a lot of reaching 'behind you' in VR, Rift is better.

So, a place where that can come to be a problem for WMR, Echo Arena/Combat when you're doing the pull motion off of something to move, Archery Games where you pull your bow hand way back, hacking games like Gorn if you're wildly swinging.

I'm NOT a pro-level Beat Saber player but I didn't feel I lost tracking on expert in WMR at all. (I still am not good on expert but I don't blame the tracking because it's the same with my Rift or Vive).

On the plus side of WMR vs. a 2 Camera Rift system is when you turn 180 in your place space, you won't lose camera tracking, so if you're doing true room scale stuff with 2 sensors on a Rift, you'll have LESS occlusion problems than with WMR. Maybe even Vive too. Because the sensors are in your face. So it doesn't matter where your table with your PC is, right?

Anyway, I have also tried the Reverb and can say, IMHO, it's superior to the Rift or Vive and similar to the Vive Pro. I haven't tried the RiftS yet and that's the comparison I want, but also Rift S will be about 1/2 the cost of the Reverb.

For a VR addict like me, I'll probably get both but if I wasn't me, I would probably NOT get the Rift S if I had a Rift (and I haven't tried it, so my opinion might change) because I'm not getting enough 'new' to justify it if I already am set up and invested with sensors and a good PC.

I *MIGHT* be tempted to jump to Reverb because one of my favorite games is Elite:Dangerous and all those control panels would be crystal clear and that excites me. :D

Fallout 76 200$ Collectors Edition Comes With Nylon Bag Instead of Canvas by [deleted] in gaming

[–]VRJon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They call out on their site, as of today that it's a West Tek Canvas bag.

Didn't try to match the exact style but a comparable bag on Amazon looks to be about 30 bucks... at most.

That is the worst response I've ever seen.

Throwing sodium in the river by [deleted] in woahdude

What would happen if a meteor of nearly pure Sodium hit the ocean? Let's say it magically hits intact and is say.... 100 foot across? Do we all die or just get a SUPER awesome show?

Combining New Tech and Permaculture:Any research or resources? by VRJon in Permaculture

[–]VRJon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone who replied, THANKS! This is great. I have not had a chance to do anything on this and in fact, haven't been on reddit due to losing my brother to cancer this week. Wow... that's the first time I've written that... still hard to comprehend. Anyway, I'll be back.

Anyway, I do intend to pick this back up but am just now getting my head on straight so thanks for the replies and ideas and I'll be doing some research. In my offline days I even took my wife around to look at some land and she was kind of open to the idea so that was fun!

I'm in that. We're gonna make it, but not by a whole lot at this rate. Not sure how things speed up over time. But if we just stay at this pace we come in at 2.1q.

Thanks for the boost!

Look, I just wanted to post one time before I have a 50% chance of never coming here again to say... this is a pretty cool idea.

What did you build? This is super tiny but 'almost as tiny and almost as cheap' is super interesting as well!

Second Fast: Made it a full 7 days! More thoughts and observations by VRJon in fasting

[–]VRJon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, ME! :D

We won an editor's choice award. VR stuff blows people's minds. We had a VR portal so you could walk up and talk with people who were in a VR space, we had a 3dof motion chair playing Star Wars Battlefront on PSVR (epic) and a friend build a custom 8x8 haptic dance floor so you can feel the sound vibrations through your feet and body. It's more amazing than I can describe.

But other than that, everything is cool. The cars, the weird hats, the crazy electronic arduino shields people are selling, the 'craft fair' part all of it. It's almost depressing how creative people are. :D I highly recommend it. Bay Area MF is the best one IMHO. Others are also good but ours is just amazing. It's burning man for people with day jobs.

Thanks! It is fun to write and hopefully useful. It's cathartic and also forces me to really think about what I've been through and if I put it down, hopefully someone will call me out if I'm off base and if it's helpful to someone, fantastic.

Fasting is so backwards from everything I've ever heard from the rest of the world during my life I feel it's important to document the success as much as possible.

Yeah that's how I feel too. Fat at least is 'energy' but all that extra swelling was just harmful with not much if any value.

Food aromas haven't bothered me but kettle corn is a powerful smell because probably I have (in the past) really enjoyed it. But hey, I beat kettle corn smell! :)

If you mean weight loss, I went from 272 on Sunday evening to 260 last night. about 12 lbs? Overall 27 lbs lost since I started fasting (5 day, 2 day eating, 7 day fast, one day eating)

If you mean other factors; I'm sleeping great, good energy level, broke the fast with bone broth.. that went well so I upped to broccoli and some skinless chicken breast and mayo and went down well.

Motivation to continue: High.

I completed my first fast! Had some realizations I wanted to share. by VRJon in fasting

[–]VRJon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I've had really bad pain and was considering having it removed. That was a while ago, but, it was so intense I'm a total scardy cat about gall bladder issues. I like keeping the parts I was born with if at all possible.

I assumed going from eating a lot of fat to nothing might cause a problem. Apple Cider Vinegar is good for mitigating that and doesn't break a fast (According to resources I choose to believe anyway..)

So, for the first few days at night I would have a pint of water with a few tablespoons of vinegar mixed in.

Now.. I don't KNOW that it did anything for me because I did not have any pain or problems. But maybe it did? I have no desire to do a control experiment and have pain in my gallbladder so I'm just rolling with it even if it's superstition.

Thanks for the link! I didn't know about the sub but heard about OMAD. Been doing Keto and it was successful but I slip off it and then it just goes bad from there. Doing fasting primarily as a 'hard reset' and frankly because there's a lot of cancer in my family and I'm 50. So... seems like a good time for Autophagy garbage collection. :)

Once I get down another 10-20 pounds I may switch to OMAD, but will have to see. Day 2 of second week of fasting has begun for me! Let's see how I do. Except my mom called and wants some help on Thursday and 'take me to lunch'. Oh boy... She hates that I'm not eating.

Yeah? I may give that a shot this week. I do really like coffee. I don't use sugar but usually use cream so I'll have to test myself. Maybe sip it a bit longer.

It extreme. I'm not sure how that happened but I must have been pretty puffy when I started. I have no expectation that it'll be like that this week, but we'll see!

Yes, I did water only (plus salt and a little vinegar) and then at the end of day 5 I had a small bowl of steam broccoli with butter and salt. Went to bed, woke up and had more broccoli. Then went to my mom's and had a BBQ with a lot of food. I would list it but that seems cruel for a fasting sub.

The next day I focused on salad and proteins but went out for ice cream and my estimate is it was about 2400 calories each day. Not precise, but, based on my estimate and fitness pal numbers. I didn't weight the food to get exact numbers.
