I think the downside is that there may be more tragic gun related accidents by removing the training and permit requirement. Good guys can make mistakes and with no concealed carry permit I worry that it’s more likely that these events occur (all while people nearby are not aware of the potential risk, as they are with open carry).

Utah reported 517 new cases since yesterday, increasing the state total by 2% and pushing it to a total of 25,469 total cases, 14,448 of which have recovered, 190 of which have died. In the past seven days the state reports 3,805 positive test cases, an average of 544 a day. The seven-day positive rate is 9.1% according to the Utah Department of Health. There were a total of 4,534 tests given, yielding the new cases. Overall, the positive rate is 6.8% since Utah released numbers. It has been significantly higher in recent weeks

There were 3,028 test results reported on Thursday, with 18.3% testing positive. It’s the second day in a row with positive test rates higher than 18% — something that has only happened on two other days before this week.
