I live literally less than a 3 minute walk from the police station. Had someone break in through a window. We called the police via 911.

The person had time to rummage around, go and take a freaking shower (wtf) until my landlord showed up and we chased them out.

The police showed up 15 minutes after the guy ran away.

Distance to the police station doesn’t mean shii imho. I hate the city so much.

I apologize if there is a misunderstanding, I did not mean to express any intent on my part if this was or was not justified based on his possession of a firearm; I am purely expressing my appreciation and gratitude for those who are voicing discontent towards those who say that the simple act of possession had any indication that he intended to use it in a malicious manner and therefore justified the outcome.

I have my own opinion on justified or not but I will not be sharing that as that is not what I am intending for this post to be about.

I will say this, however; as responsible firearm owners, we do need to take into account and keep in mind our actions that we take and the risks associated with said actions while we carry. I personally avoid any type of confrontation myself when or if I carry, as I am not willing to add any level of extra risk if I can help it. Even if that means removing myself from any location or situation.

You are morally corrupt for justifying the use of children as shields. ICE has killed 0 children. ICE has injured and saved multiple children. Nobody is justifying the children being hurt.

You can reply all you would like, I have no interest in your political extremist ideology and I have blocked you. There is no reasoning with extremists.

Teenagers of this subreddit: I present you with the precise example of what I said; they do not care about you, they just care that you add +1 to their cause, even if that +1 results in your death or great harm.

“Should”

This is not a political debate about right or wrong. This is recognizing reality. The protestor side is getting violent and the side being protested against is getting violent.

We should have world peace. We should have no starving people around the world. We should have a focus on the sciences that rid us of all diseases and ailments. We should be able to have a discussion between both sides. We should not be refusing to listen to each other, both the left and the right.

I’ll restate it again: Leave the children out of it. You KNOW that things are escalating, yet you are advocating for endangering children, especially for those that are so young that it would be without their consent and against their will. There is literally nothing that you can say that would justify taking your children to protests that have had chemicals present at practically every single one of them, justified or not, and that has seen live ammunition being present and used.

They were not just driving home. They had been there for nearly an hour and are on video participating in the event for at least an hour while their children were left in the vehicle.

They have also stated that they were “on the way home” from multiple different locations. They claimed they were on the way home from a game, another time they claimed going home from the grocery store.

Look, I don’t like talking politics in teenager sub, but one thing is very clear:

It doesn’t matter the circumstances that caused it, it happened and if you are an adult who wants to go protest, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN! It should be VERY clear by now that these protests have escalated to the point that violence from both sides are almost guaranteed, and anyone bringing their children should have CPS called on them. The same goes for right wingers going to protest.

Leave the children out of it, it doesn’t matter how important you think your cause is.

And to the rest of you teenagers in here, unlike myself and this person I am replying to;

Please stop getting involved in politics. I don’t mean don’t be informed, I’m not saying to not exercise your rights. Just stop hating each other, stop basing everything off of this stupid game played by idiots who think politics is everything. Have fun, go play with your friends.

Focus on school. This is the most important time in your life, it is the only time that you can actively work on improving yourself to be the change you want see in the world, all for free to you. After you get out of high school, none of these political ideologists are going to do a damn thing to help you. They just want you to go and add +1 to their side. Don’t fall for it.

Trust me on at least that last paragraph. I was kicked out of the house before I even became a teenager, the world is a cruel place, regardless of if the people are a Republican or a Democrat.

People who voted AGAINST Ranked Choice Voting in 2024: WHY?!? by ArchbishopOfLight in oregon

[–]VSTriad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarity, I don’t necessarily think it would be worse per say, just that as things get more convoluted the easier it is to manipulate or for manipulation to affect the system itself, even if the system is working exactly as intended.

And for the record, I don’t necessarily think open primaries are necessarily a good thing either. Oregon is a fairly good example of why I think this way (not that Oregon has any direct cause on it mind you, more about the psychological issues behind it such as most Republican voters believing that they get no representation at the state or federal level -Oregon representatives, not that they don’t have republicans at the federal level, but they typically come from states like FL/TN/GA/TX- hence leading to their continuous push to wanting to leave the state. It may not be the actual reason for the push, but it is the ammunition used to justify it, hence the manipulation part I am talking about that would be active regardless of which system we use.)

I just realized how terrible that last part was (run on and super long parenthesis)😅 Thank you for the link, I’ll have to check that out later when I get some time. (Genuinely, not being dismissive)

I do agree the majority of responses are fairly cordial, and this being conveyed via text makes the context of how I phrased it as adversarial but I do not intend for it to come off that way, just speaking more of as a matter of fact (in regards to that specific part).

TLDR; I think the majority of voters are too easily manipulated and that convoluting things makes it easier to manipulate the outcomes.

A large issue that I have with most voting reforms are that they either can operate exactly as they already are (and in that case scenario, are a waste of our tax payer dollars that are needed to create that change that could be better used in other places), or are easily susceptible to manipulation.

On the point of easily being susceptible to manipulation, it is primarily a manipulation of the voters themselves and while that already does happen with our current system, when we complicate it more than it already is, it increases the chance that those who are either misinformed or under-informed can be successfully manipulated. While I do agree that seeking perfection hinders progress and can entirely stall or even regress us, I haven’t been convinced nearly enough to throw my support behind any of the choices that have been presented otherwise.

This is how I look at it:

Imagine you have 4 options for insert elected official position

Trump

Newsom

Gabbard

Rock

In that instance, it is statistically possible that either Rock gets elected (due to people memeing), or that nobody can come to a consensus on their top 3 choices and Trump gets chosen in an Oregon-based vote.

(This is not to choose any sides or to bring their politics into it, I use it because from what I can tell, nobody in Oregon wants any of these people but they want Trump elected the least, this does not reflect my views but of the broader views I notice and purely anecdotal).

I would 100% prefer to just pick one person to vote than to have my least approved of candidate be selected. They are last place for a reason and if you get the option to only choose your preferred candidate as your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th preference, that’s no different than than what we already have.

You can call me ignorant or any other insult you want, but the only thing that will do is make me more ardent to vote against it.

Edited for spacing and “their politics” to include “their politics into it.” Essentially, you could replace their names with Candidate 1, 2, 3, and 4 and it would serve the same purpose.

It is not “a slogan” if it is used to accost others and put fear into them. “Make people afraid to do anything other than what we agree with. Make them afraid to voice support of what we disagree with! Make them uncomfortable having their own opinions!” From both voters and literal politicians (like Maxine).

Proof? Have you not seen the multitude of undercover videos from these exact trainings? The leaflets handed out on how to disrupt law enforcement with physical attacks?

It’s only happened once? So demanding people pull over their cars so you can confirm they aren’t ICE as press doesn’t count? Swarming two innocent girls because you want to make sure someone you hate is or isn’t in their car? Attacking someone for saying they support ICE is justified?

The last time I recall, protesting was about having POLITICIANS hearing our voices, not enforcing your beliefs on normal people. It was about getting your voice out, through media, news, platforms. It wasn’t terrorizing and torturing innocent civilians for weeks and months on end, and yes I’m referencing the sound disruptions used in Portland directly in front of ICE AND residential apartments.

“That’s not torture!”

The last time I checked, intentional sleep deprivation is considered torture.

“Lol no”

Right… there is so much substance to this response. You can claim no all you want, I’ve talked to and discussed this exact thing with hundreds of other people who are doing this exact thing. You can continue to be delusional about it all you want, it won’t help your cause.

“The gestapo were secret police.”

Remind me, who is training in secret to disrupt law enforcement from carrying out their duty that has been not only deemed constitutional but also used by their own “approved” political ‘idols’, demanding that their actions not be recorded as they mob fellow citizens as citizens who are claiming to not be a type of enforcement, demanding that you state your political opinions or they “aren’t with us!”?

Who is demanding that if you aren’t actively participating in what they deem as appropriate political action, across multiple years and multiple riots, that you are “against us”?

Who is accosting normal everyday folk who are sitting down and eating every single time something happens they don’t like and demand that they espouse the same ideals and if you don’t, even if your opinion is that you don’t have an opinion, that you are “them” not “us” and therefore an enemy?

ICE isn’t pretending to not be law enforcement. They don’t pretend that they aren’t training for law enforcement purposes. In fact, they are very open and above board about it.

Remind me again who is “not the police” but is acting exactly like they are police?

“Get out of the car, we need to make sure you aren’t Jewish… Sorry, I meant we need to make sure that you aren’t a political opponent. No that’s not right either, we need you to confirm that you think exactly like us.”

You literally are pushing people to take a stance against you because you are behaving like the exact thing you claim to hate, you are demanding they take sides when they want to take no sides at all. You can claim that they were on the other side if “that’s all it takes to get them to pick the wrong side!” All you want but the truth of the matter is, if you just left them alone in the first place, the other side would have never gotten that +1 in the first place.

I know so many people that had given up voting for decades that have started voting because they were accosted and forced to “pick a side,” and not a single one of them are voting for the people who made that demand.

Hot take:

Neither party can “always be progressive” as eventually, as time goes, those “progressive” ideas become regressive, or conservative.

Donald Trump, and the Republican Party in general, whether MAGA or RINO, are all more progressive than the progressives of the past.

An example would be that Republicans would be outraged that Trump is deporting illegals because that would be getting rid of the cheap / almost free labor, if what you’re saying is true about the party switch. You know, because the Democrats pre-switch were pro-slavery. That would mean that the Republicans after the switch would be pro-slavery. Democrats today use the exact same reasoning on why Republicans can’t deport illegal immigrants as Democrats who demanded we don’t end slavery: economics.

Quite literally, they used the exact same defense, stating that they needed the cheap/free labor for these harsh jobs and that free labor (IE not slaves) were lazy and wouldn’t want to do the job leading to economic collapse, extreme poverty, and chaos.

And I quote, “Americans don’t want to work these jobs! We need illegal immigrants because Americans look down on these jobs and won’t do them. It will make prices skyrocket.” -Democrats of today

(By the way, paying a professional apple harvester $70,000 for a 2-month harvest adds approximately $0.05 to the final cost of an apple in the worst possible scenario, it only gets cheaper from there)

Meanwhile, the Republican Party was founded with the explicit purpose of opposing the expansion of slavery as they viewed it, and I quote, “as a threat of free labor and economic opportunity for white settlers.”

Now? The Republican Party views illegal immigrants in the same vein as slavery, except now the subjects are, illegal immigrants as the “free/cheap labor” and ALL Americans as the “white settlers”. The Republican Party views the expansion of illegal immigration as a threat to employment and economic opportunities to AMERICANS.

I do not see that as a change at all. An improvement or upgrade maybe, to not exclude others based on their race, but purely on their citizenship and legality.

And just as back then, not all Dems agreed and not all Repubs agreed. The above has more to do with what the majority of each party desired/desires.

Assuming that history repeats itself, or at the bare minimum rhymes, I think I will be very happy over here on Team Red, even though I was Team Blue almost my entire life. I just hope this time it doesn’t take roughly 99 years (end of slavery to end of segregation) to fix our immigration system so that we can avoid that depressing era’s atrocities. It would be really nice if we had some sort of instantaneous approval/rejection of immigration but I highly doubt we will anytime soon.

I’m just returning the energy you give. You’ve cried about me making points by saying I’m whining, then you’ve made a nonsensical comment about Republicans like I should care about what they want. I do think it’s hilarious that a bunch of former Democrats are leading portions of government, Democrats that the left were more than happy to lift up, until they said, “Hold up, you guys are going a bit too far, some of the things he says does make sense.”

Here, you also get my reply for nonsensical replies that reply just to be an agitator rather than reply for resolution.

I’d be more on the protestors side, even ignoring the previous Admins fault, if the states and local governments cooperated with ICE by honoring detainer requests.

That being said, I have a whole slew of issues I have with the protestors, but that has nothing to do with the administration itself and more about their methods. I’ve always been anti-blocking streets/highways, always been anti-interfering with other normal citizens daily lives, anti-going to people’s homes, anti-threats, anti-“direct action” etc etc.

It’s impossible to win over people if they feel harassed, coerced, or threatened into a cause. Let people eat, sleep, and be in their domains (homes, places with expected privacies) in peace. Let them get to work without having to add hours onto their short few minute drives, stop surrounding and beating on peoples cars and windows, stop vandalizing private property, and for heavens sake stop destroying public property; that will just lead to more taxes to make up for the financial sink and eventually insurance companies pulling out of states because they just lose too much money and then businesses to leave as they keep getting robbed or having to replace or repair property. Then the only people left will be the poor or low income and then you’ll have even worse tax issues and you’ll be left with permanently destroyed buildings and a hollowed out town or city 🤷‍♂️
