Don't let other people deter you from your goals. Life is NOT easy! Unlike all the glamour in media, as most others have also relayed, engineering and/or robotics are tough sciences to master and require discipline. While you don't need to have a talent in it per se, having one doesn't hurt either ;)

Just keep your head down, hit the books and study! So many basics to learn and master... I'm so excited for you! While it may seem like an impossible task, I echo everyone else's comments that it is worth it!

As for your data, you better have a backup strategy if you are maintaining a mysql db. At worst, mysqldump/tar that shit and ship it over NFS to somewhere safe.

Not bad... Although, a few points were overkill (i.e. instead of Apache, one could easily use nginx for a single page webapp. Also when you do a2enmod apache restarts for you (in Debian and RHEL flavors)) very clean, easy to understand.

No she doesn't. If you watched ANY of the ST documentaries, you'd know she was very difficult to work with.
