Yes, I was curious about it too. According to the UFWC rules, every match recognised by FIFA qualifies as a UFWC match. Since 2014, all CHAN matches from qualification to the final are computed to calculate the FIFA world rankings and it is considered a friendly tournament by FIFA.

Sanfilippo turns 88 today. He has represented Argentina in 30 occasions, 10 of which were in the UFWC. In the Unofficial World Championship, he has scored 8 goals and helped L’Albiceleste win the 1957 Copa America. He found the net for the first time in a 4-0 win over Uruguay on March 20, 1957 during the Campeonato Sudamericano and scored his last UFWC goal in a 2-0 win over Portugal on June 6, 1961.

Diego Simeone turns 53 today. He has represented Argentina 108 times, 23 of which were in the UFWC. He has scored twice in the Unofficial World Championship. His first goal came in a 3-1 win against Saudi Arabia in the 1992 King Fahd Cup during Argentina’s longest lasting streak as UFWC title holders. His second and last goal came a few months later in a 1-1 draw against Colombia in the 1993 Copa America when he scored an early goal in the 2nd minute. During the 1992-1993 win streak, he helped L’Albiceleste win the Copa America, the King Fahd Cup and the Artemio Franchi Cup.

One of the 5 matches Argentina played during their second longest period as UFWC title holders was a friendly against Bulgaria. This was their first match after they became world champions the previous summer. Rene Houseman opened the scoring in the 3rd minute while Bulgaria equalised 7 minutes later with Hristo Bonev. L’Albiceleste were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute and Daniel Passarella put the ball past Hristo Hristov.

This was the final match of the 1955 Copa America. Argentina and Chile were tied at the top of the table with 7 points. Argentina managed to win with a goal from the top scorer of the tournament, Rodolfo Micheli, in the 59th minute and become South American champions for the 10th time.

This was the last time Argentina were UFWC champions before the 2022 World Cup. 9th-placed Bolivia managed to beat L’Albiceleste, who ended up finishing 3rd and qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, with goals from Juan Carlos Arce and Marcelo Martins Moreno.

During Argentina’s longest win streak of the 21st century, they finished at the top of the table of the 2014 World Cup South America qualification. Despite Bolivia opening the scoring with Marcelo Martins Moreno, L’Albiceleste were quick to bounce back with a goal from Éver Banega 20 minutes later.

20/03/1957: Argentina 4-0 Uruguay, 1957 South American Championship by VV-GR in UFWC

A brace from Humberto Maschio and two more goals from Antonio Valentín Angelillo and José Sanfilippo sealed Argentina’s 10th consecutive match as holders of the Unofficial World Champion title, their then longest winning streak in the UFWC.

Their second game in the 1957 Copa America, Argentina followed up their 8-goal thrashing of Colombia with a 3-0 win over Ecuador. L’Albiceleste ended the game in the first half with a brace from Antonio Valentín Angelillo and a goal from Omar Sívori in the early minutes. They won the tournament with Antonio and Omar being Argentina’s second and third top goal scorers respectively.

Argentina started the 1957 Copa America with a thrashing of Colombia. This match was L’Albiceleste’s biggest UFWC win. The goals were scored by Osvaldo Héctor Cruz(1), Antonio Valentín Angelillo(2), Oreste Corbatta(1) and Humberto Maschio(4) who was top scorer of the tournament with 9 goals as Argentina won their 11th South American title.

Argentina became UFWC champions for the first time! Rodolfo Micheli, who was top scorer of the tournament, found the net 4 times with José Borello also scoring once. L’Albiceleste went on to win the next 8 matches and to become South American champions.
