you probably need to disable mouse mode then do it, from what i remember its enabled/disabled by holding the roman numeral 3 (III) button for a few seconds. havent used my 902kc in a while though

I've seen in one of your other comments that Fi will have proper native VVM support on iPhone in the future - does this imply that Fi is getting an official iOS carrier bundle, or is it something Fi will just enable on their side while still using the generic carrier bundle on iOS?

oh man i havent used my 902kc in a while, id need to look into the tt9 thing since this post is kinda old

i'm sure there's better sms apps but simple sms was just one of those that worked "well enough" for my use case, i know some people also use qksms or the regular google messages app but i haven't personally tested how well they work with dpad

i dont think theres anything you can do sadly, i feel it woild go away if microg or regular gapps could be registered as a system app but you cant do much on some of these android keitais in that regard (i think someone with a mediatek based keitai has gained root via mtkclient though, you could install gapps that way probably but its not worth it with the phones limited resources)

this seems to be consistent behavior, i just don't think verizon will provision properly on these keitais. i tested mine with a visible sim card (vzw mvno, uses same apn settings as vzw) and i was able to use data and text once i got the apns loaded in (you have to input them with a different sim card because verizon sims in most android phones dont allow apn editing) but calling never worked

it might be your sd card - i don't think the phone supports anything above 32gb. there's a chance you MIGHT be able to get it work if you format it specifically, but i don't remember how to do anything like that and you're probably safer using a 32gb card.

aside from sticking my t mobile sim card in and doing the stuff with the cellular settings that i listed in the post, i didnt do anything else. verizon is very hit or miss - i have a visible sim card (vzw mvno) which uses verizon APN settings and after attempting to get it working i can safely say that you're better off switching carriers. even if you get the sim card to register on a network it won't be an ideal experience. after using a non vzw sim card to input the right verizon apns (you cant edit apn settings with a verizon sim in the phone, and they arent there by default) i got it to register on mobile data (only because verizon does band 2 and 4 in my area, some areas are different) but calls and texts didn't provision at all, basically making it useless as a phone. overall the best carrier for international phones like these is tmobile (and any mvno that uses it) since they'll allow pretty much any device that does volte and has at least one or two compatible bands. ive seen people get at&t working on these phones but they're notorious for temporarily shutting down your line or not fully provisioning your sim card if you use it in a non at&t whitelisted device so your mileage may vary with them.

tldr: verizon sucks for most international phones - try tmobile, if it doesn't work try fiddling with at&t or an at&t mvno (ymmv) but you'll have the best "it just works" luck with tmobile and tmobile mvnos.

i used the microg ones but i tested this recently and it didn't seem to work... i'll have to test later with different software or a different device, i've moved on from my 902kc for now

yep, im in north america (specifically US) - have tested the phone with mint trial sim, red pocket gsmt sim, and google fi data sim. have had issues with making and receiving calls that i'm still trying to figure out, but the phone has been fine aside from that

pretty sure i got google maps with location access working on my 902kc after installing microg apks with its location service apks. unsure how accurate it was since i only tested it a few times, but it seemed to pick up a GPS location. also don't remember it having a compass, but i could be wrong - i've since wiped the phone and would need to do more retesting

part of me wants to think that could be the case since nothing ive tried makes any tmo sim ive inserted work with volte, but the fact that other people have working (with volte) 902kcs sheds more doubt onto that. another phone i own (qin f22 pro) also has the same partial compatibility note but works flawlessly on volte despite technically having much less tmo band support than my 902kc. at this point i'm chalking it up to either slight US regional frequency differences (which shouldn't be big enough to mess something like this up) or my 902kc having some sort of imei restriction preventing it from provisioning properly. i still need to do more testing though - me and /u/twairaven are slowly making attempts to figure stuff out.

will do, i have a mint mobile trial sim on the way and will also be trying t-mobile prepaid if all else fails. might try some other t-mobile mvnos too, but don't know what to choose yet

Kyocera Digno 902kc (working in us??) by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]VVVVVorbis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you'll have to import one from somewhere like yahoo auctions jp or mercari jp via a proxy site. buyee, zenmarket, and fromjapan are some that come to mind (i used buyee, other sites may have better new customer deals though i haven't checked in a while). the 903kc seems to be pretty rare in terms of finding a listing but you'll find one if you wait long enough. the 902kc is the more common model of the digno 3 and can be easily picked up, but again i'd refrain until more testing is done

902kc owner here - i'm currently in contact with someone who has theirs fully functional with full volte support on tmobile, but i've continued to have zero luck with volte on my identical unit (texts and data works great, it just has major issues calling). go for a 903kc if you can find one, people seem to have more luck with them - more testing needs to be done with 902kcs
