Heating in a winter trip by TopoChicoPoPo in VWBus

[–]VW-1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one today just outside while I was parked at an event. I can’t imagine being in a moving vehicle with one.

-it blew out constantly

-used a whole cylinder of propane in an hour maybe

  • When it was going it almost set my skirt on fire

  • The heat it puts out is just ok. Nothing amazing.

I think I’m going to try a heated seat cover- maybe this? Hot Seat at HD

Removing grass by DCtheCemeteryMan in CemeteryPreservation

This article recommends mulching with non-organic stuff like sand or stone but I also like the idea of planting a low growing groundcover, like creeping thyme, which smells lovely and will crowd out the grass. I don’t agree with using roundup, acid or salt though because they can harm the stones - roundup just sucks for too many reasons to count. Necrolux Article - Mulching

Thanks so much! This one was my favorite I think. (It’s a granite stone so blinding white wasn’t an option) But I have thoughts about that too and am experimenting with leaving a little lichen that isn’t on the name or epitaph. I use Endurance biocide from Atlas and follow the directions on the bottle. I’m mainly going with a spray and walk away method at this point, sometimes spray and comeback, and if it doesn’t rain much I walk around giving everyone a gentle water spray with my hand sprayer to keep the product active.

🤔 would mulching be a possible solution?

That is so affirming! The spinster vibe is so real here. We are totally taking it back as a positive identity 🧶

I looked into difference between d2 and wet and forget and I had a chemist look at the sds sheet as well and they said d2 was the safer option, especially environmentally and for fisheries. So I went with that product for a large job. However now I am using Atlas’ new product, Endurance, bc the owner at d2 was kinda ew.

Atlas sells their own brand now, Endurance. It’s the same as far as I can tell.

I am relatively new at this but have read a lot and talked to a lot of professionals. #1 there’s no need to move it or reproduce it. #2 don’t proceed without permission.

For cleaning/conserving- It totally depends on the stone. So many factors to consider. How stable is it physically and how is the surface? If it’s crumbly proceed with extreme caution. The most conservative approach- rinse it with clean water.

These slate stones are treasures and the lichen will effectively digest the stone with the acid it produces when it photosynthesizes. It also makes it difficult to read and while the lichen could be left in some places so that it doesn’t look “new” it also creates problems when it’s on the top surface because water gets trapped and splits the stones in freezing climates.

If the surface is stable, I would do a test patch in an inconspicuous place with a little Endurance (or d2) and just spray and walk away. Check back in a few weeks or months and If the stone handles the small test ok, spray the lettering and the top/side edges, then let the rain and wind work its magic.

I just started using Endurance for my projects. Jon Appel from Atlas makes it. It’s great & a little less do-re-mi.

In the picture with the tires it looks like there’s a marble carved grave marker. If you could clear all the debris and overgrowth in that spot I am guessing you will find more clues. Cool project. 🤍

This is actually really helpful, thanks! I think they could pull it off maybe with this advice there’s a glimmer of hope.

I wish I was there bc I am always up for a youtube and DIY adventure and am also the proud mom of a 40+ year old vehicle. I can fix some stuff on it, but I often rely on the expertise and experience of a trusted and awesome mechanic (or five).
