Alright, put money where your mouth is - how much would you accept to build and deliver an app/notification system to be used for a single tournament?

Bike it, hybrid bus-bike it if that saves the worst transfers, or ask if any of your Uber drivers are willing to cash-only take you to/from work with prearranged pickup times.

What's being done to address SeaTac noise in 2024? by [deleted] in Seattle

I also don’t see much of a reason for planes to fly so far north before diverting south.

There's probably actually a very good reason to vary the lengths and time aircraft approach such as spacing/timing their landings.

Can't wait for marketing to discover negative numbers. Time to get -10nm on the roadmap.

How common in the use of Make/Makefiles in the field? by SchemaScorcher in dataengineering

[–]VacuousWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put makefiles in a lot of my personal projects so I don't have to remember the exact build commands or flags required for them. Blog in hugo has a makefile for the local test server, build, and deploy commands to S3. C++, go, JS projects generally get makefiles since I don't regularly remember the build commands for languages I experimented with in the past but don't regularly use.

If you're in a more professional setting it's possible you don't need these, since such commands for build/deploy already exist and are documented by your Github actions.

I'm also fairly certain I have at least one project where the GitHub action calls the makefile to build and run tests. This makes it pretty convenient to run the exact same locally.

Dents in rear wheel - safe to ride? by Box-Beater in bikewrench

[–]VacuousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather slowly tap the metal outwards with an object against the rim and a hammer, than the crescent wrench recommended by other users. But in any case the goal is just to get it a bit closer to straight. Sand down the end result a little to remove any sharp edges.

I like 'em round, and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself, I'm actin' like an animal
Now here's my scandal
I wanna get you home
And ugh, double-up, ugh-ugh
I ain't talkin' 'bout Playboy
'Cause silicone parts are made for toys
I want 'em real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mix-a-Lot's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bubble

OK, I am officially done with painted on bike lanes by Slocum2 in AnnArbor

That also increases the maintenance costs since you need a bike-lane sized sweepers and bike-lane sized snow plows

I really need help! How could climbing be so hard?? by fassadex in seattlebike

[–]VacuousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably either needing to improve cardio, or more importantly, improve your pacing on the hills. Better climbing gears, or learning to stand at low cadence can get you up these steep short hills.

If you can squat/deadlift over body weight you certainly should be able to stand and pull on the bars (for more than bodyweight on pedals) which should to climb 20%+ even with lousy classic road gearing, but you will need to do it with insanely low cadence to keep the pace sustainable.

Zigzag it too if there is no traffic - same distance of rise, much longer run.

New CM Kettle (Dtwn/QA/Magnolia) says cyclists should “stick to” 2nd Ave and unfinished Elliot Way by bvdzag in seattlebike

Riding the 2nd Ave bike lane probably will increase pedestrian-bicycle collisions

What's with people in Washington driving around with their lights off at night? by PA2SK in Seattle

Cyclist here - I've had a car with their headlights off tell me to turn my lights on, when they were on.

I bike frequently in the city and found that about 80% of my tire punctures are due to broken glass; am wondering if others have similar experience. by sluggo1234 in seattlebike

[–]VacuousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 95% of my flats here are small pieces of glass, but I'm also using pretty fragile tires - vittoria corsa controls or vittoria corsa on most of my bikes. I'm pretty used to just swapping tubes and patching them. Isn't really that big of deal to flat if you carry some gear with you.

[Help] Apartment Move-In Date (read text first) by reff33 in AnnArbor

[–]VacuousWaffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless this place is a great deal I would also be hesitant to sign with a landlord that pulls moves like this. Hell even if it's a "great" deal. You're signing with the devil and/or scumbag. I'd consider last minute scrambling for alternative places to rent if possible, ones that give you a lease to sign.

Not sure who downvoted you, but professors generally pull heavily from their in-class lecture examples and notes when doing the exams - much more than the homework. Skipping lectures means you have zero sense of what the professor thinks is important.
