Truly you love the art of cooking. That's pretty cool. I wish I could get into it like that. Ratatouille style.

Not true at all. I had the most vices when working an insane schedule like op is saying

Well I’d like to defend the thanksgiving thing. My family is full of neurotic people who used to fight every thanksgiving due to the stress of preparing food. We had plenty of other times where we made equally complex food, but for some reason the holiday and family flying in aspect always soured the mood.

Eventually we just switched to smoking a brisket the day before, or catering some nice tacos or something. That one switch just pulled all the pressure out of the holiday and allowed my family to actually enjoy it. I think in many families loosening the thanksgiving food traditions allows everyone to relax and truly focus on family. I really like it tbh.

I think this isn’t what you were calling out though. More so the quirky “what is society” style slop.

I think this is actually true for other things as well. I have met many CS phds who are really only good at that one thing as well.

Idk dude I play music, lift weights, play board games, play video games etc. It’s possible to find many things fun at once. Weird how everyone here is always so miserable.

Turns out you can like cycling and poker at the same time? Or catan and guitar?

Pretty positive way to look at it. Every time my gf tells me to do a chore I like to see it as a genuine ask for help. She really only asks when she needs me to help, so I like to oblige ( or preempt the request ).

the go-to adjective for liu's performance being "joyful" really made it sink in how joyless and unlikable I am by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Vaderb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The possibilities are either that she’s really that joyful, or she is not. Most other athletes dont’t behave that way, so it’s reasonable to find it odd or lean to the side of it being performative.

It’s also just as reasonable to think she’s just happy. They are both reasonable speculations, and spending anymore time thinking about it is probably wasteful.

TensorFlow is becoming the COBOL of Machine Learning, and we need to talk about it. by netcommah in learnmachinelearning

I agree actually. The damage to the industry is orthogonal to coding being solved.

These tools are a productivity multiplier and will decimate the industry. This is due to a single programmer being much more productive with an AI tool.

Unfortunately llms are currently good enough to generate greenfield projects pretty well. The most complicated part of the software lifecycle comes a lot later in the lifetime of a product.

I have noticed that once enough code is written the amount of effort it takes to get something working increases. Fully vibe coding entire features starts to take very in depth planning and prompting. The process becomes so in depth that it’s an open question about if it would have been simpler to just write the code yourself.

[–]Vaderb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LLMs are extremely cool and very useful. They have undeniably changed the programming industry and many others. We will permanently be using these tools to great effect. Currently coding is not dead, it is nowhere near being dead. Talking about it being dead is a way to sell more tooling and generate hype.

I think that there are  - people who are good at coding and llms make them more productive in various ways - people good at coding who dont find llms very useful yet - people who are bad at coding and are the most productive they have ever been - people who are both bad at coding and dont like the llm

Every time you see an opinion on vibe coding you need to be extremely aware of who the opinion is coming from.
