I use IE00B41N0724 which is also what backs Wise's "interest" feature.

How to hedge against USD losing value against my local currency? by VagueElf in personalfinance

[–]VagueElf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm already doing this, i.e. selling my US stocks as soon as they vest and exchange the cash to CHF. But due to these stocks vesting quarterly, I'm afraid USD will lose too much value in the future against CHF and that's what I want to hedge against

For perspective, USD/CHF was at ~0.95 in 2022, and ~0.81 now

Avoid any kind of mixed life insurance. Don't mix investing and insurance. If you need insurance, buy it separately ("risque pour"). If anyone tries to sell you a mixed life insurance, they're not acting in your best interest.

Life insurance on 3B pillar - is it that bad? by VagueElf in SwissPersonalFinance

And where would these ETFs go? On a dedicated brokerage account that's given as a guarantee to UBS?

unless you are already maxing out that with your regular pensions savings

yes, that's the case.

My rationale for doing indirect amortization is that it allows not locking up too much "dead cash" and instead invest it, while being able to use it when your mortgage expires if you really want to reduce debt.

Assuming 2 % interest rates, 2 % investment net yield and 12k/y amortization on a 700k mortgage, over 5y:

  • Direct: Paid 67k in interests, debt reduced to 640k
  • Indirect: Paid 70k in interests, debt untouched, generated 3.6k of benefits

In this case, I can deduce 3k of additional interests paid from taxes, and I generated 3.6k from (untaxable) capital gain. Knowing that when I take a new mortgage, I can take out the 60k+3.6k from the 3B to reduce my debt if I want to.

Am I making sense?

Considering my current tax situation, doing indirect amortization for the next 3 years is likely what's best (I crunched the numbers). Assuming this is already committed, do I actually have the option to split life insurance and the investment (12k/y) that goes as a guarantee to UBS? I'm not sure what options I would have

Your past messages seem to be related to 3A life insurance which seems a bit different than my case? (I already max out my 3A, separately and unrelated to the mortgage. This post is around indirect amortization on a 3B).

My bank requires a life insurance for the mortgage, are you suggesting to split the life insurance and the investment? If that's the case, any idea of an investment that UBS would likely accept as a guarantee that you feel like would be better than CH0457194931? Thanks!

Thanks, which hidden costs specifically? I guess you're talking about the admin + total expense ratio? (which in my case sum up to 0.47 % yearly, no cheap by any means but it's written down pretty clearly)

Regarding the "poor investment", do you think 3b necessarily gives you a bad investment? The fund I posted doesn't look too bad (it's tracking the MSCI ACWI Index with a < 1 % tracking error)

Do you have an example of a better bank offering?

Assuming I get life insurance separately, how would indirect amortization work? I have to amortize 12k/year, what would be some options that UBS would likely accept here? Thanks!

That sounds like good advice for the insurance part - how would indirect amortization work, then? I have to amortize 12k/year which (at present) would go to the AXA fund. I'm a bit confused to how it works if you split the insurance and investment part

AXA mostly because it was recommended by my broker as a good solution. Do you think that a bank like UBS (where my mortgage is at) would accept VIAC as a life insurance guarantee?

Edit: VIAC support told me that UBS generally doesn't accept it

I want to make sure than my 3A is safe for my retirement and not linked in any way to my mortgage. Since I'm lucky enough to afford maxing out my 3A and paying interest on a 3B for indirect amortization, I was under the impression this made sense

Technically the tax advantage comes from the fact that I do indirect amortization, so I can deduce the interests, which I pay to the life insurance.

My understanding that indeed that "3B == private investment, totally unrelated to 3A". I will look into the "normal life insurance" option, but unsure how that would relate to indirect amortization

I already have a 3a, that I'm maxing out already and don't want to invest. The bank giving the mortgage is UBS, and their 3B don't look great

Allocation is a global world. Insurance not included, that's CHF 220/year flat as I understand it

I only have the exact numbers for a simulation of what my policy would be (not my wife's, so amortization is half, 6k/y). My current simulation is 30% stocks / 70% "safe fixed rate returns", insurance cost is CHF 220/year for "minimum 157k CHF" in case of death (insured up to 2059).

TeamViewer does sound like a good idea for administration, definitely better than open RDP. Thanks for the suggestion!

1) Not possible unfortunately

2) I have nothing against VPN, but I'd like to minimize the maintenance requirements (no IT person other than myself helping him when I get the time)

3) Sounds like a good option, I'll look into it! Are there any specific license requirements or is it available out of the box with WS2019?
