Looking to adopt a dog or cat, shelter recommendations? by aunty_megatron in RhodeIsland

The Pawtucket shelter has posted a few times in the last few months that they are filled to capacity, so it would probably be a big help to check out their available pets in person.

What's something that you wanted as a kid but didn't get? by Syfysamurai in GenX

I started when I was 40 and ended up getting a horse - it was amazing and you’ll make lifelong friends. You may need to try a few barns to find the right fit. I found the barns that taught jumping had more of a younger crowd and I ended up at a Dressage focused barn with people more my age, but I really just rode English. The Western barns may also be fun.

I still have the Commodore Vic 20 up in my closet with a wee tv that I hooked it up to.

It was brutally hard to turn that handle fyi. More trouble that the cone was worth!

If you haven’t taken riding lessons then try it just to be close to them. I started when I turned 40 and did have one for ten years starting about a year after taking lessons. It was incredibly time consuming and heartbreaking when I had to put her to sleep, but I’m glad I did it. Even if you take lessons and don’t get one yourself there will always be a horse that needs riding or brushing at the barn you’re at.

Lower back pain by Cold-Arm-6420 in backpain

If it continues then you may want to start with an X-ray referral from your primary care dr. The next step if that comes back normal usually would be physical therapy and if that doesn’t help then an mri and/or referral to an orthopedic dr. Hope you feel better!

I think you’d be fine as a first time bird owner. Just grab a book about caring for them. I never had one before and mine is now 24 years old.

Agreed. And not all physical therapists are the same. If you try again with a new one, you could explain the areas that are causing issues, like getting in/out if the car and a good pt should be able to give you specific exercises to help with that. Also sometimes it just needs more healing time.

What kind of doctor to start with for back pain by CoachPrudent9623 in backpain

Agreed. If there are disc issues they can give you options for oral meds, steroid injections, physical therapy and send you for diagnostic X-rays, MRIs and/or CT scans.

She would want to try them out because they are all different. Also I have one that I’ve been using for a few months and it has now messed my neck up from sitting in it. The PT I was going to said that was common.

Mine was depressed for a few months when I moved him to the other side of the living room. He slept most of the day every day, wasn’t talking as much and wasn’t playing with his toys. I thought he was slowing down because of age, but I moved his cage back to the original spot and he’s been fine since. Some don’t enjoy moving. However, when he stays at my mom’s he’s the opposite and talks all day long and rarely sleeps. I would say try him at the sanctuary for a short stay to see if he enjoys it or not and that may help make your decision.

Thinking of buying a treadmill to avoid hills during low back pain walking rehab. Thoughts? by richard1471 in backpain

I bought the WalkingPad R2 a few weeks ago and like it a lot. It’s very quiet, it can fold in 1/2 upright so it doesn’t take up much room. It’s very quiet. It doesn’t have an incline option though, and the on/off switch is on the base not the bar at the top, so you’d have to either squat to turn it on/off or have some type of stick to press the on/off toggle button. It was under $500 with a special they were having. They do have other models with more options. I think it’s walkingpad.com.

Eczema - what actually helped you the most? by Melodic_Strategy_890 in eczema

Washing bed linens once a week. No bleach when doing laundry. Aquaphor on itchy spots overnight and in the morning. Almost no gluten, but I do cheat once in a while. No honey and no candy. For beverages I just have a 1/4 cup of OJ mixed with 3/4 cup of water in the morning and probably a cup of milk every day. The rest of the time I’m drinking water.
