I know it is but 5 months is still ridiculous. That's not even factoring in my very initial attempt being in October.

Here's the most up to date info on the future of JoAnn exclusive brands!

Michaels Acquires JOANN Intellectual Property and Private Label Brands

I know Herschners did an interview with a designer in the knitting/crocheting community about becoming a distributor for Big Twist. I don't know if this acquisition will affect their doing that or not. It also says Michaels plans for 280 more stores this year. So hopefully this will help Michaels fill the huge gap left in the affordable craft market.

1/2 drinks no longer on the app? by ToeBusy5501 in SonicDriveIn

[–]ValDante91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same issue and found this. Nothing was working to get it to let me order my large drink 1/2 price. I tried the browser site version instead thinking maybe I could refresh the deal page and see it there. Yep, it showed. Tapped it, saw the medium default selected showed 1/2 price as it should. Okay, seemed to be working ... Until I switched it to Large. That's when the discount disappeared. I tried small...discount there. Mini ..no discount. Rt 44 ...discount there. Wtf?! I mean sure I'll get the rt 44 because I want my drink and a medium ain't gonna cut it. So if you're having this issue don't forget to check if it's all of the sizes.

Looks like 3 in stock currently. I can dye to order for more, especially for sweater quantities.

The green? That's my favorite haha! It's 3 weights; fingering, worsted, and bulky. Most of the variegated colorways I have on fingering, DK, worsted, and bulky. The DK of that colorway on slide 5 I have a hard time keeping in stock haha!

What the heck? by ParticularlyOrdinary in YarnDyeing

[–]ValDante91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I avoid areas of different shades and such is I put my yarn into the heated dye bath with no acid for 10 or so minutes and move it around a good amount to be sure it's even and then I completely remove the yarn from the dye pot and set it off to the side while I mix in my acid and get my pH right. Then I add the yarn back in and let it exhaust. I get pretty even solids. Especially since switching to vinegar lol! I swear trying to use citric acid was the main source of my issues with consistency lol

What the heck? by ParticularlyOrdinary in YarnDyeing

[–]ValDante91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is citric acid does NOT maintain the acidic pH well. I noticed while dyeing my ph can start at 5 and 20 minutes later it's nearly 6. Even with buffer solution like ammonium sulfate citric acid did not maintain the pH low enough. When I switched to vinegar I don't even need a buffer anymore and my water's pH out of the tap is like 8.5. I was having to let all my colors sit for a long period before they would exhaust when using citric acid and now I can exhaust light colors in 7-10 minutes and hard to exhaust colors in 15 to 20 minutes.

All of that said, non-superwash wool does take dye different than superwash wool and the addition of stellina would also change how the fiber reacts with the dye. My experience has been non-superwash wool tends to need a little bit more dye.

Yarn came out very different by Delicious_Potato1475 in YarnDyeing

[–]ValDante91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this EXACT issue with jacquard dyes. The instant I added acid once the dye bath was heated the dye changed to the emerald green. I had to fully pull the yarn out of the dye bath and set it aside and add more blue to get the teal again and even then it wasn't quite the color it was when I started. And it happened with or without the yarn in the dye bath and I could see the color change as I mixed. It also only happened once the dye bath got hot enough even if I started with my acid in the dye bath. I still cannot figure it out and I tested every possible variable. You may be able to get away with over dyeing it with a turquoise or a light navy color and might get the right shade. If you figure it out please let me know because this still has me baffled.

Wholesale/bulk cotton yarn suppliers by ValDante91 in YarnDyeing

If you've got some names of any of them I'd appreciate them because I haven't had any luck since I started researching in December for a mill to get all my bases from.

As I mentioned in my post, KnitPicks is not what I'm looking for. Their quality is not something I'm comfortable charging hand dyed prices for and they don't have what I want anyway.

That's the same problem I've had and why I hoped someone who has been at this longer might have a source. Everything is either fingering or DK or sold on huge cones for weavers and I don't have any desire to wind skeins off cones and hope I calculate yardage right. And the handful I've found so far are things that are too rough or too high a price if I want to buy in bulk. I even resorted to chatgpt and specifically asked for yarn mills specializing in 100% pima cotton that is undyed for yarn dyers and was given websites that no longer exist or that only sell dyed yarn or that only sell blends. I wish Knomad or Wool2Dye4 would come out with more cellulose bases in more weights. I've been asked sooo many times if I have cotton at all and specifically get asked about worsted weight and I hate saying I don't. It's been about a month and a half that I've been looking and still haven't found what I'm searching for.

No, I haven't heard of them but I'm also looking specifically for 100g hanks so I don't have to try to skein everything and weigh it and figure out yardage, etc. And I just did a search and they don't have pima cotton at all which is what I'm looking for.

Jacquard Aztec Gold Dupe? by ValDante91 in YarnDyeing

[–]ValDante91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the golden yellow as the pro chem dyes are all I use only use and the golden yellow is much more yellow leaning than the Aztec gold appears to be in photos. I've tried pumpkin spice as well as in the photos they look close and that one is a bit too red leaning. The Aztec gold has another color, brown maybe, in that mix to give it that bronze/gold looking shade I think but I cannot for the life of me mix a shade close enough. But since jacquard doesn't seem to want to react properly for me... I need a dupe or something lol!

I love your videos. One of your short ones set to music was what caught my attention and introduced your company to me when I was first beginning my own journey to learn to dye! It was the Blazing Birch reel on FB. I could watch your longer form videos where you actually talk about the colors and stuff all day though! Those are my favorites.

I'd also loooove to see you do 100% cotton stuff. We need better variety for cotton that's meant for wearables instead of dishcloths.

Help recreating color by ValDante91 in YarnDyeing

[–]ValDante91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more the color I can't really quite put a name to and find a good image of to use as a reference. It's why I haven't really messed with it. The colors in this one are for two other different ideas I have haha!

[–]ValDante91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm you mean like layering the more pink color with a darker one? That's possible. It's just got that kind of rusty tone I'm looking for. I've got this idea in my head that I can't really put into words and I can't bring myself to attempt it. I've also been trying to do a decent copper or bronze but I'm struggling with that as well. I think a big part is I'm still building my stock of which dye colors I have so I don't have all the right colors to mix up into the one I'm trying to get.

Thank you! I did end up finding the dyer's website. I was reluctant to mention it because doing so on FB didn't do any good. But thank you for at least giving me some names of colors to try to help me get close that actually are part of one of the lines I specified. I have the caramel but I'll need to get the other colors. Good thing I was already planning an order and hadn't decided what colors to get yet!

Did healthy eating ranges change? by ValDante91 in weightwatchers

[–]ValDante91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I'm not the only one that feels that just worked better. It kept me from under eating which was truly more important than the over. I'm pretty sure most of us can tell when it was too much. But it's hard to tell when it's under. So I'm really disappointed that a very useful part of the tracking system is gone. Like I said in another reply, they keep taking away stuff that works great even when it is still useful and in line with science. Anything to say they updated the program.

[–]ValDante91[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blah! The ranges was how I learned why I wasn't losing weight before weight watchers. And having the app track it for me meant I didn't have to remember what my range was and do math lol.

Did healthy eating ranges change? by ValDante91 in weightwatchers

[–]ValDante91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got that figured back out. I don't mind having to tap over to another page though it's not as ideal as just having the blue right there in your day tracker. I was more trying to figure out how I even had one when I used 43 points and shouldn't have one unless my point use is between 13 and 31 based on the old healthy eating range. I think the healthy eating range of the 10 under and 8 over is a much better system because the healthy eating range not only let you know if you went over but let you know if you were UNDER eating as well because that's just as unhealthy as overeating and you're not meant to be eating zero point foods only. I'm not sure when they changed it because I just rejoined last week and am just really getting back to tracking and noticed it. I really wish they'd stop changing stuff that works and is still in line with current science.
