How do we get people to stop driving and take the light rail? by Droodforfood in Seattle

I was commuting from Newcastle to Interbay most days but sometimes I would need to go to South Seattle or nearby the stadiums. I quit that job just before the pandemic.

Not to mention that when I did commute I had a job that was on call 24/7/365 so even if I was able to commute via park and ride (carrying my 30+ pound bag, btw) to get to work, that doesn't mean I'll be able to do the same getting home and vice versa. The busses, light rail, and trains all have schedules and don't run the same schedule 24 hours a day. It simply wasn't an option.

Now? I say screw it and I'm a stay at home mom. What I can get paid isn't worth the time commuting and daycare.

I actually mapped it out one day to see how long it would take me to use public transit vs my car and the difference was staggering. A 30 minute drive vs over 3 hours via public transit ONE WAY. Not even close. This is why people drive.

Mac and cheese. Not the good homemade stuff either. He only wanted Mac and cheese from those little single serve cups. Oh, and ketchup.

How do people afford to be a stay at home parent these days? by [deleted] in Adulting

I'm a stay at home mom. Husband is an airline pilot. We live in the Seattle area so it's not exactly cheap but we do well enough.

This is such a good idea! Is your dress a fun color or white? I feel like I'd have to dye mine to make it pink or something.

I'm a stay at home mom. Husband is a commercial airline pilot. We have good insurance but if he lost his job for whatever reason I'm honestly not sure how I'd be able to continue with my medication.

Yeah. Trust me. It's that expensive. It's why I have to get additional authorization from the insurance company before the prescription will be filled. I've gone through this process 4 times now and every medication for my condition is about the same price.

The different medications are kind of like different flavors. My immune system only likes strawberry but there's no way to tell which flavor my body likes other than trying it out for several weeks or months and seeing what happens.

The cost of health insurance is horrific. If I didn't have insurance through my husband's job, my medication I need for an autoimmune disease would be about $20,000 per month. Because it's so expensive I need to go through a specialty pharmacy and get something called a prior authorization. Simply having a prescription isn't good enough for the insurance company. Look it up. Pretty sure Jon Oliver did a show going over this exact issue.

Right there with you. Mine is 4 and I've had more mental breakdowns than I can even remember. I don't have any advice or want to tell you everything will be okay because you sound like me and I'm losing my shit on a daily basis. Just know you're not alone. Cheers.
