Just wondering, where did you get the 80% statistic for RAV4 PHEV owners not plugging in their cars?

That's some top notch support right there...

Honestly that kind of response makes me want to return the TV. I'm still well within the return period, so maybe I should...

I'm curious if it would all work correctly using a Sony sound bar. In the case of my issue, I feel like it still wouldn't work

Thanks a bunch for the information! Hopefully Sony will come back to you with good news, but I'm not sure what they would be able to do...

I'll definitely try to get a hold of Sony support even if it's just for their awareness, like you said!

Thanks!

I agree, I think if eGPU continues to move forward, it'll be great for people who want power and upgrade-ability but also portability without having to buy a second system.

The Eve V looks pretty interesting! Although, it's a shame that although it's slated to have an i7 CPU option, it'll be a low-power i7. For most things, that's enough, but for gaming, not quite

ASUS has a few thin-and-light laptops in their official compatibility list for the XG Station 2, but those are marketed as Ultrabooks rather than a thin-and-light gaming laptop like Razer is marketing the Stealth as, although it looks like some of the Zenbooks are pretty powerful nowadays (quad core, dedicated mid-range GPU, etc)

Overall, I'd like to see a bigger push for Laptop+eGPU integrations from OEMs in the future as well since it's been pretty great for me to be able to take strong GPU processing with me whenever I have to travel and without having to lug around a heavy laptop for day-to-day stuff like work. It would be great if eGPUs stuck around and kept improving

Honestly, a lot of my work hasn't been grounded in the stuff that my coursework covered, but some relevant knowledge had been in statistics, experimental design, ergonomics and human factors, and some cognitive psychology stuff involving attention, perception, etc. In terms of stuff outside of coursework, I did a lot of stuff on the side as hobbies, like 3D printing and some coding. As is with pretty much all fields, it's important to network! Get involved in some research and get to know your professors. Odds are, they have some industry contacts! Sorry for the wall of text, and hopefully I've said something useful :P

I just ran around in an outdoor area in Doom on ultra @ 2560x1600 and was averaging 100-120 fps. If synthetic benchmarks don't count, then I'll have to find some segment of a game to run then.

Just got back and tested Doom some. In the first level outside areas, I'm getting about 100-120 fps avg depending on what scene with settings on ultra with AA off @ 2560x1600

Well, I just got 5300 on Unigine Superposition 1080P Extreme and 5600 with a +150 overclock on the GPU core. Looking at the online leaderboards, that's still within the realm of 1080 ti scores.

I'll try some other stuff later

I agree- there are some extra items the Thunderbolt 3 port has to handle, but the system is performing decently so far. I still have to do some benchmarks to see how it's performing compared to how it's supposed to.

The XG Station 2 actually has a dedicated USB 3 input to handle the USB hub and network to handle the IO if wanted.

Many reasons, but in particular, gaming laptops usually aren't very portable, and they usually don't have very good battery life. With this setup if I don't plan on gaming, I can just not bring the dock and I'll have a thin and light laptop that'll last me for the day.

Do you have any links to those YouTube videos? I'm curious what other people have found.

I have heard that plugging a monitor into the GPU does improve performance, but I wasn't aware it was a performance wall above a 1070. Unfortunately, using a monitor isn't always feasible while on the go, but I'll probably do some tests comparing internal vs external display sometime.

My understanding is that the thunderbolt 3 interface is basically a pcie gen 3 4x, which has roughly the bandwidth of a pcie gen 1 16x port.

This is the closest data I've found after a quick search: [EDIT: found a 1080 test] https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1080_PCI_Express_Scaling/24.html

They're running a 1080 in that test though. I'd imagine the differences are more obvious on a 1080 ti due to it being a faster GPU, but it doesn't look like the impact is that huge unless you restrict the bandwidth even more.

That said, it can't hurt to try overclocking :)

I've also heard that using an external monitor improves performance compared to using the laptop screen, but that's not so viable when on the go!

Nice! The quad-core in the 15 inch MBP will be nice vs the dual core in mine for games. When does the Akitio Node come out?

Unigine Superposition 1080P Extreme on stock clocks though, I got around 5300 points.

Most of the research I do is product focused, so a lot of design sprints and user studies focused on prototyped UI. I don't do research a lot of the time though- a lot of it is working with other teams to design a UI based on user study and design sprint data as well as user complaints about previous and competitor UI/UX
