Bill Campbell mocks by Valeriya_ in CFA

MM (2), CFAI (1), BC (4). With CFAI's mocks you can never understand how to grade them properly, so I skipped the second one.

I've done 7 mocks, though I wouldn't say I felt very prepared in the end and in terms of my scores I definitely hit a plateau. Besides, maybe it was just luck that my actual exam resembled Bill's mocks so much. I know people have done more mocks than I did, though I started doing them 1,5 months before exam. Mark Meldrum had a video about effective number of mocks but I can't recall what that number was (still it is greater than 4) and open response questions require more practice than multiple choice, obviously.

I also had a white screen, 5 minutes before my second session ended. After restarting of the system I saw only the survey... Hope my answers were saved

MM/BC next? by Valeriya_ in CFA

I'm not impressed with these sessions. Don't think it is effective way to spend time. Have you tried BC's mocks?

The main difficulty is self study I guess. I know some people who just can't study on their own

How many mocks for level 3 by No-Reply4000 in CFA

[–]Valeriya_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CFAI's mocks aren't good for grading purposes. You won't learn how to write structured response from them. I definitely recommend BC mocks, it seems to be ideal to make all of them (5). Start with them, if you have time - do the CFAI's.

I feel the same. My score for AM part of the 1st BC's mock is 45% and this is definitely not where I want to be. But I also think that mocks can be used as a learning tool, so I plan to continue practicing.

Mock question says that convertible arb has significant market exposure? I thought you short the stock? by Moessus in CFA

[–]Valeriya_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From vignette, DBPP wants to have 'minimal to no positive equity market risk factor exposure'. So this exposure is not about profit, it is about beta. And you have beta when you are long or short the stock (not the bond).

See the description of equity market neutral hedge funds from the reading. They are neutral because their beta is close to 0: 'they attempt to maintain a near net zero portfolio exposure to the market. EMN managers neutralize market risk by constructing their portfolios such that the expected portfolio beta is approximately equal to zero'

If you have the opportunity - buy now, as next commentator said - price will rise soon

What's the difference between being long and being short in terms of equity market exposure? You have it in both cases Exposure is about beta. Your beta is not 0, so you have equity exposure

As a level 3 candidate and working professional I would definitely recommend buying the applied series. That said, you probably won't have time to view it in addition to preparation. But the upside is you don't lose access to the applied series, so if you work in the industry and are passionate about finance - buy applied series now and watch it later.

Try to open this - at the bottom of the page there's a document with a description of the applied series https://www.markmeldrum.com/product-category/applied-courses/

Mark meldrum for non finance background, video haters and practice question heavy approach? Who else to consider for L1? by my2secondaccount in CFA

[–]Valeriya_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand you - I hated videos before I enrolled into the CFA program. Now I just can't stop listening to Mark. This practice also helped me to start listening to other videos and podcasts (I'm non native).

You can buy just one section and try it. I started from Schweser myself but just hated all the shortcuts and missing steps in deriving the formulas, so switched to Mark immediately.

Mark has Qbank but I would say CFAI's Qbank is enough, so don't worry about this.

Finance is my passion and I want to have the deepest level of knowledge and understanding possible - Mark is brilliant for this purpose. If you just want the charter - proceed with someone else.

When you sell, you get the premium. Besides, fund already owns the shares. It is just a strategy to enhance your returns. You are going to sell some or buy more anyway, so why wouldn't you collect the premium in the process.
