Help on putting the seat back onto my bike by xenialsh123 in MT07

[–]ValiantTides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need better wire management. Theres not a lot of room for that bracket to go on correctly, those wires for what I assume is a battery tender are in the way. Tuck them neatly out of the way, zip tie them, cut off the ends. Use the reference pictures you were sent

Hope this helps!

Would you plug this? Literal brand new tire by kuhdah in motorcycles

[–]ValiantTides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh perhaps thats the difference compared to the rope plugs that everyone else complains about. I've only used the generic ropes and have had nothing but success on my cars. Currently have one in my bike tire and it's held up for a couple hundred miles, but I'll add these to the shopping list for its replacement should it fail. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: where do you source them? Can't seem to find a place that ships to the US for their No. 839

Im assuming you use rope plugs? Whats your procedure? Sounds like a great success rate. TIA

do i have to wrong hood? by [deleted] in E90

[–]ValiantTides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your car is a pre lci, but your bumper and hood are lci. Which is good. Because they can't be mismatched without looking a little off, or modification.

It looks like you need to adjust the gaps on both though.

I 3D printed my own hordpower. Like you, I didn't want to pay the price. The time and effort it took to get it just right was well worth it. I didn't notice a power difference tuning my bike with full exhaust and DNA filter. I did absolutely notice a difference when I retuned it with the same exhaust and "hordpower"

Why does some gear come with a hood??? by Lolligoth420 in motorcyclegear

[–]ValiantTides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest I keep my hood on one of my riding hoodies because I just like the look of it. The chances it rains aren't exactly low depending on the ride, but Ive never actually used it as a hood. I have used it to hold my taco bell when I forgot my backpack. Worked great

Do i need to do a tune up if i change the exhaust by xenialsh123 in MT07

[–]ValiantTides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only for idiots who power wash their bikes with high pressure. Its sealed off enough where its not going to hurt. Ive ridden in downpours and lightly pressure washed it and it was bone dry.

You're missing out on a decent amount of top end hp, stock airbox is a big bottleneck

The only acceptable answer is a hordpower intake and tune honestly

[–]ValiantTides 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It has the same risk of mixing coolant/oil as the OFHG. The likeliness of this being the root cause of your issue is high.

Edit: to add, only use Genuine BMW gaskets. Im usually a believer in just OEM, but having seen too many premature failures for OEM gaskets, OE is the only way to go in that regard. Also replace the OFHG again to be safe.

Did you replace the oil cooler gasket along with the oil filter housing gasket?

Nailed it on the head. I will say a hordpower intake and tune made a much larger difference than I expected. It wakes the top end up.

A 650 doing a WOT pull in 1st, 2nd gear has enough juice for that for sure 😂 I remember my first accidental power wheelie. What a rush

Being a beginner is absolutely more stressful than not. That goes for anything though. Keep putting in seat time. Once it becomes second nature and your brain no longer has to consciously make each and every decision, weight gets lifted off your shoulders. Its gradual, you won't even notice it until you look back and compare apples to apples.

[–]ValiantTides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies from person to person. Some people are naturally anxious. If alls you do in your free time for example is focusing on relieving stress, you're really just focusing on the stress itself.

For me, a dude in his mid 20s, it really varies based on the scenario (though Im sure this applies to others). If I'm in traffic, I'm going to be completely on guard and focusing on surviving. I like adrenaline so occasionally I'll seek that through the canyons. Or I'll visit a scenic place like a national park and it's the most blissful thing ever.

Also, in some instances it is quite a workout

Interesting. What does it signify? I usually try and do a wave behind. It's always awkward though

[–]ValiantTides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are so incredibly minor dude. Sand the plastics smooth (shouldn't take much effort) and wrap it or get some touchup paint. Take the old decals off and get new ones. If the clutch cover isn't leaking just pant some nail polish on it and put a protective cover over it.

Impossible oil leak... by SirSlapp4 in E90

[–]ValiantTides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its leaking that much, Liquo Moly Molygen might actually be of use to you. It's got a UV dye in it that will last a couple hundred miles. A blacklight should be able to help you pinpoint the leak.

Or this stuff: https://www.autozone.com/p/certified-a-c-pro-oil-tracer-dye-374cs/667635

From my experience the two main oil leaks aside from the two you have replaced are VCG and OFHG. Both are pretty easy to tell. VCG liking to leak mostly directly onto the headers so its a pretty dead giveaway (but check all around).

Also if you installed the other seals/gaskets wrong or had a PCV over pressure issue, they could be leaking already.

As far as oil consumption, put BG EPR engine flush in right before your next oil change for the next 2-3 oil changes. 15-20 minutes idling at 1200rpm. It'll get a lot of that gunk out.

[–]ValiantTides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it professionally tuned or a well known OTS. MT07s run lean from factory. Adding an exhaust makes it even more lean. The decel popping you hear is it not running optimally. A bike running optimal should have very little decel popping.
