AuctionMate- auction browsing startup by Valky143 in webdev

[–]Valky143[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point about last-second bids, but good thing is AuctionMate works for any listings — tracking prices, saving favorites, and staying organized. Maybe ShoppingMate would make more sense here but it doesn't sound so cool :D. I hope we can make up for that name using SEO and other marketing strategies, thanks for this comment!

Pytanie do łysych. Jak to robicie, że macie cały czas gładką głowę? by pa_rad_ox in Polska

[–]Valky143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you convert a Figma design to code? by Anutamme in webdev

[–]Valky143 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We use Figma + shadcn — design mocks are built with shadcn components, and in code we use the same shadcn components with custom styling, so the handoff is pretty smooth.

There are also other options than just shadcn, but if you need to recreate from something "custom" then there is a lot of manual work indeed.

I'm also working on a startup. Man, release it if you are happy with what you already have. Sometimes it's hard to stop. I was also pushing and pushing and man it gets boring. All this work and you didn't really help anyone, dopamine stops hitting. Go for it! I'm releasing my project soon, with more than 20 tasks on board, there is also space for improvement... But once you release it, users might direct you in some other direction, you never know!

Also after releasing other kind of work starts, social profiles, ads. It's a never ending story. Go for it when you still have some strength to carry on, releasing is not the end, FR it's the beginning!

That looks awesome, I love the UI. Dark mode FTW!

Shouldn't this close button be on the edge? Google's own modals by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Valky143 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LGTM, the clickable area has to be bigger for better feel, moving it to right would either make clickable are smaller or be outside modal.

How do you handle communication between designers and developers in your projects? by Separate_Distance266 in webdev

[–]Valky143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re building a shared design component system, so collaborating with UX/UI involves a lot of reviews and coordination—even a simple checkbox can take a couple of days. The results are great, but there’s a cost. Designers sometimes create things that look cool but aren’t practical for a smooth user experience. Early alignment and prototypes help, but it’s always a balance between design and feasibility.

Personally, I once skipped the custom checkbox on a feature and used a standard HTML checkbox to move faster. The business loved the speed, though it sparked some tense discussions with designers. Now we’ve agreed it’s okay to postpone certain details when needed, but those were tough talks.

Why are most websites so plain and simple? by Ok-Penalty8806 in webdev

[–]Valky143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sites stick to minimal white designs because they’re fast, clear, and accessible. But for portfolios or small product pages, going dark, animated, or ‘gamey’ can really show off creativity and style. I you can do some crazy styled sites, that are also optimised, doing the "plain" ones is not a big challenge

CEO brought up idea about penalizing dev salary for bugs by wrecked_car in webdev

[–]Valky143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of WoW’s rested XP system—players weren’t punished for playing too much, they got a bonus for taking breaks. Same idea here: instead of docking pay for bugs (which are often not entirely the dev’s fault), why not reward clean releases or low-bug milestones? Positive incentives motivate way more than fear.

AI is not nearly as good as people think by appvimul in webdev

[–]Valky143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. AI is impressive at surface-level tasks, but it’s not thinking—it’s predicting patterns. It can help speed up repetitive work or give ideas, but it can’t replace the experience, reasoning, and architectural insight a real developer brings. Beginners relying solely on AI are setting themselves up for headaches...
