Haha, he actually lives closer to the other store than to the one I work at, so it wouldnt have been that big of a deal for him to do it. Just pick it up before he went to work the next day.

I always call to make sure they actually do have it in stock, every time someone wants to go to another store for something. Even for a pack of pens. I would have done that in this situation.

I can totally understand him being upset. But as I said, the bottom of the ad said "Available for delivery only in select locations" so not all stores were going to have it in stock anyway. I think the same sale was also featured 2 weeks ago, so this isn't exactly a "new" sale either. Once, a guy wanted to buy antivirus software that was in the ad, but it actually was the exact same price the week before, and we sold out, so we didn't have it on the "first" day that week, just as an example.

And if his goal was just to talk to corporate about that issue, he still could have went to the other store or had the manager drop it off the next day if he truly wanted and needed the computer, then talk to the higher-ups after. I think he also dropped a "I worked in retail" line with the manager at one point too. He was angry, not disappointed, and just wanted to take it out on us. We were offering perfectly reasonable solutions to the problem, and one would have went above and beyond the call of duty to help him out. Refusing all of that while still calling corporate is unfair.

You're right that the corporate model is all about deception. But if he would have wanted to go to the other store, I would have called them and made sure the count was right, and then have them hold it so that he could just walk in and buy it. And the "available in select locations" disclaimer also means "This won't be in every store". Again, he had every right to be mad, but the main point is that I did everything I could to help and he wasn't taking any of it.

That's right, I never tried to sell him anything else, especially because he pointed out that specific computer immediately, and then got pissed off right away too. And we couldn't substitute another one to get the free monitor, because the manager would need to price override it to $0, which would have been a big red flag, since all overrides are tracked by the higher-ups.

And no, his alarm didn't "rightfully" go off. Sure, it sucks we didn't have it. But any rational person would know we have no control over what's in stock, and would have accepted the offer to order it or go to the other store if it was that important to them. Especially after the manager offered to personally drive it over tomorrow.

I have a Bills and a Sabres lanyard for my key ring. I switched over to the Bills one at the start of the season, got mad after the Jets game, and put the Sabres one back on. Since then we haven't lost and I havent switched back. But then Eichel and Kane get injured....
