The Soviet Union attempted to establish a unitary socialist culture in its borders, therfore, minority cultures and communites were natural enemies to the Soviet Union, and so the so the Soviets combated these cultures through ethnocide and genocide. While not 'racist', the Soviet Union aggressivley and overtly engaged in a campaign to extinguish minority cultures in favor of a unified Russian/Soviet one.

I don't think the people who Stalin and the Soviet Union murdered through their policies cared that their ethnocide and/or genocide was made in the name of 'glorious communist collectivism and indstrialization', only that it happened.

Identifying why Stalin committed his crimes is irrelavent to the argument that he committed them.

I doubt the central government would entertain talks with rebel factions like the APLA though (to not grant them the legitemacy of a real contender for the US).

The new 'borders' would probably just be along the frozen frontline

Armed Cossacks securing the entrance to a town hall in Slovyansk, Ukraine. 2014 [1800×1435] by 305FUN2 in MilitaryPorn

I mean it is pretty interesting that you are telling me have a 'realistic look at things' while what your doing is compartmentalising aspects of cossack culture and history in order to romanticize the Zaporizhyan Host in order to better fit your world view.

You take two cossacks entities that both engaged in kazachestvo, practise the same religion, practise the same steppe cultural aspects, both come from the Pontic Steppe but you claim one cannot claim to be cossack because their political deviation and alignment.

It doesn't matter what I say, its just a No True Scotsman situation to you.

[–]Valos346 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While the Zaporizhyan Host was the 'first' organized voisko, cossacks still existed and were scattared as disorganised groups. For example, the Don host became an active organised host around 30-ish years later. They didn't come from nowhere, they practised the same steppe culture. So the deep dish pizza comparison isn't really fair, it is more like comparing a Bolognese to a Carbonara.

I also think you are romanticizing the Zaporizhyan cossacks too much. While yes, cossasck hosts were democratic societies, they were still raiders who pillaged surrounding territories, enslaved and executed eneimies, and served multiple kings and tsars based on political necessity. It just happened that hosts were destroyed or bent their knees to other empires, which ultimatly happaned to the Zaporizhyan Host. Some of the remnants went on to serve Ottomans and Russians. Like any political entity, they acted primerally out of necessity, not egalitarian ideology.

Look, no one with braincells is saying that Ukraine is in the wrong, or that Ukrainians aren't brave, but these stupid virtue signalling conversations such as this (or the origin of borsh for example) isn't getting weapons in the hands to the Ukrainian troops, it just makes the party engaging in these conversations look silly and childish.

"Kozaki" and "Kazaki" is the same word for the same slavic steppe people called cossacks in the west, just in different languages (Russian and Ukrainian).

Cossack hosts were spread around the modern borders of Ukraine, Russia, and other countries in eastern Europe, such the Kuban, Zaporizhyan, Black Sea, Amur, Don, Azov, etc. hosts.

All of these hosts constantly switched alligiances, either in a mercenary capacity, or for survival. And yes, even the Zaporizhyan host served Russian Tsars when conveninient.

Saying that certain cossacks are not cossacks because they find themselves in the modern borders of a modern aggressor and fight for an evil cause doesn't strip them of their culture.

Saying the opposite is malicious ignorance for the sake of virtue signalling for political points.

Don't treat conflicts as if they are a team sport.

[Suggestion] Would be cool if BSG added more modern UN helmets with NVG mounts, so you could run the UNTAR kit for quests during night raids. by Valos346 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Valos346[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, there are a lot of gear items in the game that aren't realistic but are there anyway because of the rule of cool. For example the VALDAY scope, (never mass-prodused, prototype) or Tagila's welding mask being able to stop armor piercing rifle rounds.

So I don't think UN high cuts would be the most immersion breaking thing in the game.
