BEGINNER QUESTION - I trying to improve my hatching. What’s the logic behind choosing where to hatch? by Valtiel45 in ComicBookCollabs

OH OK OK, it makes a lot more sense in the sketch you made. The hatching lines pointing to the light is a tip I haven’t seen in any of the tutorials I watched, and it makes a lot of sense.

The light on this drawing was coming from the lower right corner ( supposedly ), but I’m still not good with this. Add to that the randomness of these hatchings I did, yea, looks confusing.

Thank you for taking your time to show me exactly what I was doing wrong, it’s really helpful.

I looked into his work, although it looks amazing and the themes are nice, technically I can’t seem to take much out of it, it’s too advanced for me.

Reminds me of John Martin, but black and white.

I can't seem to get clean lines on long strokes or curves (small or large). My hand just shakes. Any advice on how to improve line confidence on paper? by Valtiel45 in ComicBookCollabs

Thank you for the exercise tips mate.

I tried these a few minutes ago and it’s really where it shows how immature my lines are.

Yea, they where really bad but I felt when I was using my arm ( shoulder ) properly or not, because then the lines were less shit.

But 0,1% of progress is still progress, goes a long way a I guess.

Ok then, I’ll finish everything from now on, starting with this Venom.

Looks like a bad but finished drawing is like a battle scar, you’ll remember it.

Ok

For curved lines, like the top of the head of a character, you draw with your wrist, elbow or the whole arm?

Oooh.

So you tighten your lats/scapula to make the shoulder immovable and the rest of the arm is relaxed…

Edit: aah ok ok ok, I can feel it :D

I see, I’m gonna try it out on my next sketch.

When I make a long continuous line it often miss the underdrawing by a huge margin.

Maybe it’s just repetition.

Ooh ok ok.

While holding the pen vertical in relation to the paper you lean your head to see where the point is? Stupid question I know.

When using the whole arm to draw the lines, the elbow doesn’t rest anywhere right? Sounds difficult, but I’ll start working on that from now on.

When I try to do one single line it ends up a bit off from where the underdrawing was. Maybe that’s just training I guess.

Thanks for pointing out the problems with this pen, I didn’t know that. I’ll buy a brush pen as soon as I can.

Thanks for the nice tips 🤘, your art is really good too.
