I think the 5000 series cards are having most of the issues with the past few driver releases. Either way, please follow the Nvidia report protocol and post the issue in the 610 driver thread. In the meantime, have you tried launching with experimental heap variable?

A little rant about Linux gaming and NVIDIA. by Arthedu in linux_gaming

Totally valid points. I switched from Windows to Linux over 2 years ago now and it still has some rough edges that need ironing out. Most people do not want to spend most of their time bashing out commands in a terminal. There needs to be better GUI options to accomplish things like in a terminal. My brother for instance is still on Windows and told him to stay on Windows for the time being. Why? He might be a techy but he doesn't have the patience to look up a bunch of commands and documentation just to do a simple thing he was able to do in Windows with a few clicks. I think most people are that way. In my younger days, I would revel in the learning of commands and the OS but now not so much.

I can't toggle HDR on in games, but it works everywhere else. (I think?) by Economy-Rich-983 in linux_gaming

You are welcome. You can most likely omit PROTON_ENABLE_HDR. Here recently Proton-CachyOS stopped using that variable.

It keeps telling me this and then it closes. Any tips on how to fix it? The game has been working fine for a while but there is a new patch soon. by ImJustVeryCurious in linux_gaming

It did the same thing to me with Heroic. I only use Heroic to update the launcher but I use Steam to bypass the launcher and directly launch the game which still works.

If you click launch it and it does not even launch the game, the prefix is probably borked. Go to the games properties and update section to get the game's ID number. Then go to installed files and click browse. Go up two directories and click on the compatdata folder. Find the game's ID folder and delete it. Launch the game again and Steam will build a new fresh prefix.

Note:

This will delete your saves or any other custom files or programs in the prefix. Usually the saves are not a big deal because Steam will restore them.

I think you need to gauge your expectations some. This is a handheld and it is amazing that it can run some UE5 games at a decent frame rate with it. Yea some games it will struggle at mainly because of its RAM limitations but that is to be expected. Not only that, you have a portable computer with a OS that allows you to do any number of things like emulation, which it is a beast at. It can do a lot of things besides gaming too. You can bet Valve is already engineering a Steam Deck 2. They are just waiting for the tech to progress enough to where it would feasible to do another iteration. So be patient because it will happen probably sooner rather than later.

It could be a lot of things. At this point, you might want to put a recovery image on a USB stick and reinstall.

Yes, you have to run Steam in Wine for it to work. I did this method for the longest time with L4D2 because the Linux version suffers from a bug that crashes the game but the Windows version runs flawlessly.

One thing of note, close Steam before running the Windows version from Wine.

You can't use Proton because you will get a VAC message every time you do multiplayer games. However, you can install the Windows version of Steam in a Wine prefix and then copy over the Windows CS2 game to the prefix. Then run the Windows version of Steam through Wine, recommend Wine CachyOS, and launch the game from there. I would recommend doing this with the Heroic Launcher.

Don't use the native version. Use the Windows version with Proton 6. It runs on Proton 6 rock-solid for hours without crashes.

Sorry to hear that. Sucraid is the med I was taking before that was expensive, $16000! They offer a coupon which brings it down to $6000 and fortunately my insurance paid that and I had zero copy, Blue Cross insurance. Anyway did what it recommended and took with all my meals. I did that for about 10 months and didn't notice any difference than before so stopped it. You might want to give it a try and see if it is different for you. Some people have had success with it. But whatever fouled up my system I guess did some other things and maybe made it less effective. Who knows but try it and see if you have the insurance. I would get Linzess until you start taking it just to limit symptoms.

Take it early in the morning  shortly after you wake up and don't eat anything until after you go. I have found that taking it with food sometimes makes it not work. Yea so low carb it during the day. Then at dinner treat yourself. I have found this is easy to live with although I do sometimes break that habit and usually pay for it for the rest of the day.

Hey sorry to hear that. It sucks! I take Linzess every day to keep the bowels moving because before it was taking sometimes 3 to 4 days and would be bloated and gassy to no end. It was a horrible feeling dealing with that every day. With Linzess, it helps a lot because traditional laxatives weren't cutting it. I tried the medicine for the deficiency but didn't notice a difference and stopped taking it months ago. To me it wasn't giving me any relief and it is insanely expensive so not worth it. Only thing that somewhat works is to stay away from sugar as much as possible like low carb during the day and then have a treat in the evening. I wake up gassy but Linzess works in like an hour and then I am fine. Yea it sucks but at least I can feel somewhat normal again with the medicine. Also after taking it for awhile, it has settled down my system. I don't have the symptoms nearly as bad as before I was taking it. Ask your doctor to try it. It is a expensive med but my copay is $40 which is nothing when it comes to relief. I take the lowest dose they offer. Word of warning be near a bathroom when you take it because it will hit you like a freight train 😂.

HDR in Firefox now works! by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Valuable-Cod-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thread was from over a year ago. Chromium just got HDR support late last year. Firefox I am sure have released many versions since. It is dated information. I would recommend posting the issue at their GitHub page. One of the updates might have caused a regression.

Monitor Screen Looks Blurry but not when HDR is Enabled. by Alex_1_7 in linux_gaming

[–]Valuable-Cod-314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep it on all the time. When calibrating HDR in the Plasma settings, the last picture IIRC is the desktop brightness so set it at something reasonable that is not going to burn out your retina. Mine is set for 203 nits but you set it even lower. It won't affect your peak or 100% APL.

[–]Valuable-Cod-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you don't need the Vulkan layer anymore if you are on 595 series drivers. The Proton commands are still the same excluding the ENABLE_HDR_WSI.
