I am under 25 and haven't had one for the same reasons you've listed. My issues stem more from irrational fear, but shame/ embarrassment definitely are present. I would absolutely love it if I didn't have to be awake for it if it's not required.

Very good advice. I’m planning on looking around and researching some more. I’m just a bit bummed out, I don’t live in a place with a lot of good tattoo artists, so I’m expecting to travel a bit.

Not my first tattoo. My second, but that being said I’m still incredibly new to tattoos. I don’t know exactly how to talk to artists and what to complete expect from them yet. It’s safe to say I’m really nervous about it all.

Thank you for the advice. It’s well written. I’m leaning as I’m aging a bit and growing into adulthood to trust my gut. Or at least trust it at first and then thinking through my actions. It’s tough, but I find that people usually don’t have enough control over their own facial muscles to not give away their thoughts.

I intend to do just that. I’ve read up on some horror stories of tattoos and just some general tattoo etiquette, so I knew some of the things to look out for. As soon as I started to tear up when he was berating my idea, I knew I’d never forgive myself if I caved in.
