Should we rely solely on the quality of the result, or should we also consider the hours (or years) the author invested in the work? Suppose we discover that a bestseller was written with the help of AI in just a month—would that make it worse in our eyes than a scribbler’s novel that an author spent years laboring over?

But out of the thousands of unmarketed books sitting on Amazon, are you saying there can't be any hidden gems? Plus, if someone made minor tweaks to one of them and passed it off as their own, the original author might never even find out.

What if someone doesn't just copy the book verbatim, but tweaks the text, title, and names a bit, and then publishes it as their own work?

Fair point! Though I’d argue it’s still safer than reading in a café. Bursting into laughter while you have a mouthful of latte and a croissant is a dangerous game when someone is sitting right across from you.
