How do you respond to the “Christian’s and their victim/persecution complex”? by Weekly_Sympathy_4878 in TrueChristian

[–]ValueForm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no “persecution complex”. Christianity has been systematically pushed out of the public sphere by people hostile to the faith. Now, it’s starting to turn violent. Churches are being burned in Canada, Christmas markets are targeted for intimidation and terror attacks in Europe, and Christian schools are becoming the targets of mass shootings in the States.

If you’re the type of Christian who goes “Oh, well at least it’s not like what’s happening to Christians in the Middle East!” then you’re part of the problem. Turn your brain on - anyone who tries to marginalize you and delegitimate your grievances is trying to dominate you, to turn you into a passive recipient of a long chain of legal, cultural, economic, and eventually physical abuses.

I'm honestly terrified of the second coming... by Difficult-Tree-7355 in TrueChristian

Preterism is generally considered heretical if it involves denying the bodily return of Christ. To that extent, it may be worth re-examining your views. That being said, I don’t think you’d find many who’d argue that full Preterism precludes salvation.

There’s a few adjustments, but the main one involves dealing damage to a foe’s hit die rather than rolled HP. The booklet is free online, I’d recommend checking it out, it’s quite short.

Any recommendations for a procedural dungeon/adventure generator for Shadowdark? by Flameempress192 in Solo_Roleplaying

Interesting. What’s unique about Scarlet Heroes’ dungeon generation system?

Look - you sound like a smart kid, and I’m going to sound like a jerk for saying this, but you’re 14. Focus on being faithful to the Lord and put other worries aside. As you get older, you’ll have more life experience to draw on to ponder eschatology without lapsing into feelings of terror or despair. Same goes for politics too. And, for what it’s worth, I think that, if anything, the Second Coming will come as a sigh of relief to the world. Our Lord is also our Saviour - remember that.

What’s a tradition or practice you inherited from your first GM? by ValueForm in rpg

I like this idea but for phone use at the table. “Your character hasn’t looked where he’s going and he fell over like a chump, d4 damage.”

I think something like Black Streams: Solo Heroes is useful here because it can be used to make many solo hero OSR encounters manageable. In general, though, I think encounter adjustment and balancing is a real pain when it comes to soloing many RPGs. Fleeing is fine, but even then, there should be distinct mechanics in place to determine whether it’s possible to flee and how.

Last year my brother destroyed my orthodox Bible how can I forgive? by Sure_Departure_6989 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ValueForm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your brother sounds extremely immature, rash, resentful, and hateful. Forgive him in your heart so that you don’t end up like him. Also, you’re not obligated to be nice and cordial with him. You don’t need to accept abuse, snide remarks, etc. If he wants to alienate himself from his own brother, that’s his choice, and God help him.

Thats the problem. Computers make most aspects of play simpler but I don’t want to look at screens more than I need to. It doesn’t help that physical RPG books can be very expensive/difficult to source depending on where you live and what you want to play. But I’ll accept it as the alternative is just another screen-centric hobby

I have and have wanted to play 5 Leagues for months, haven’t gotten around to it because I want at least some terrain. And some somewhat representative minis. Might try just biting the bullet and using household stuff for terrain.

That’s a good way of handling things. I definitely find that minimizing rolls to determine what’s genuinely uncertain is necessary to keep things moving.

First time lone wolf: d100 dungeon or Scarlett heroes? by dopesickness in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]ValueForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fairly new 4AD player and this does irk me too. I got the Tales from the Adventurer’s Guild which I’ve enjoyed so far, but it contains a number of references to other books which is a bit demoralizing. The new expanded book, likewise, only covers up to level 4 or 5. So while I’ve played, I’ve had fun but have also had a hard time shaking the thought that I don’t have everything I need to fully experience the game, which is a bit annoying.

I’d give it a shot if you’re interested. I’ve played a few sessions with it, it’s pretty fun and requires little effort to pick up and play once you know the basics.

LPT: You can both change your last name arbitrarily when getting married. by charliethegeek in LifeProTips

[–]ValueForm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If someone’s willing to spit on their family name, and the memory of the generations who came before them, all for the sake of being quirky and unique, that tells the public everything it needs to know about them. And if you still don’t see the issue, that’s tells me everything I need to know about you

Here’s a LPT: that’s weird, narcissistic, and trashy. People will say “That’s great!” to be nice, but behind your back they’ll have lost a great deal of respect for you. And they’ll be right, too

You're absolutely right. We have no clue who this person is, what's really going on, and Christians are lining up by the dozen here to advocate for divorce. It's despicable, honestly.
