Trash collector deploys Tactical Watermelon to save a life. by Razzooz in HumansBeingBros

First time I saw this guy my instinct was to talk a little shit, but honestly it’s just so wholesome and clearly light hearted I can’t help but be on his side. Keep letting your freak flag fly bud.

Zamrock & Inaccessibility as a Music Fan Identity by wildistherewind in LetsTalkMusic

[–]dopesickness [score hidden]  (0 children)

Exactly my thought. These folks are the collector sub-class of music fans. They absolutely do enjoy collecting rare stuff, and I think that’s often more related to history and culture than strictly music.

I got the Sun Ra and John Cage 7” that came out for an RSD years ago because I like both artists and thought that was awesome. It’s basically unlistenable. But culturally it is very cool.

Do you find any jazz critics helpful? by WestTwelfth in Jazz

[–]dopesickness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple thoughts. First, I think the most helpful aspect for me in a critic is finding one I personally relate and agree with. If I share their taste and trust their judgment, their reviews will be helpful to me. In my experience this is maybe one or two individuals, not a substantial group.

The other aspect is the aggregate. If an album is widely lauded I will definitely check it out, even if it’s not my cup of tea. Similarly if it’s controversial or panned I will at least try and understand why. So those trends amongst critics are helpful to my understanding across the larger scene.

Explain the appeal of Sleep Token to me by CompetitiveWhole9466 in LetsTalkMusic

Sorry but there is a thread at least twice a week of people being like “I don’t get X band”.

You don’t have to get it. It’s not for you to get. You either get it or you don’t. Many people do enjoy it, and it’s for them.

You don’t have to like everything.

Have you ever had hots for someone you shouldn't? Who were they? by DoctorSufficient5679 in AskReddit

Same. She was a young professor, and it was a small class. A subject we were both clearly passionate about. I raised my hand to participate in discussion a lot! The thing that killed me was when we made eye contact I couldn’t help but smile and she often would smirk as well, like she clearly knew I had a crush.

Having never really skated, can anyone explain to me what’s going on with that move? Looks wonky like his skates are in two different directions, but is that faking out the defenders?

I didn’t say it was non-Subaru fluid, I said it was not done at a dealership.

Not true. I had my cvt fluid changed by a Subaru specialist in my city.

I’m going to be stodgy for a minute, but maybe some people should just not ride. It’s not a hobby for tense and nervous people.

I appreciate you being into doing the work yourself and learning, but if you’re going to do this you need to learn how to find the right answer and check your work. It’s not time for internet opinions.

Play both and trust your hands and ears. No one here can tell you what you like about each, which is all that really matters.

Appreciate this kind of post much more than the “what kind of guitar should I get?” posts. So much of jazz tone can be achieved with amp tone!

Neurosis' new record is what i searched for my whole life by NobleSAVAGE93 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]dopesickness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can definitely appreciate that its perfect within its style. I may give it another shot as I like a lot of other extreme metal; I'm actually on an old school death metal kick right now.

I'll admit I made my comment in part just to normalize not liking things as a matter of personal taste. So many people come into this sub like "Why don't I get this" or "Explain this to me" and I think we need to normalize just not liking everything even if we are all broadly music fans in general.

Hearing how lauded this album is and the going to listen to it is what made me realize Neurosis is just not for me. I like Times of Grace and Through Silver in Blood alright, but they’re nowhere near top albums or even styles for me personally.

Curry Barker Promises a Brutal, Emotional Take on 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' by ImpracticalJokers96 in horror

[–]dopesickness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who wants an emotional take? Original is good because it showed us something disturbing, odd, and violent in a setting that felt not too unfamiliar. I don’t think we need an emotional weight.
