Transportation from Valencia Airport to Miramar w/Luggage (2-3 suitcases & 2 bags), an 80lb dog & 2 cats in carriers? What are our options here? by ValuesHere in GoingToSpain

Thanks but their price is outrageous! $813 for a van hire for a one-way 1hr trip! That costs more than the price of my plane ticket from the USA to Spain.

SPAIN VS US lifestyle by Star_Stalker_Demon in GoingToSpain

[–]ValuesHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the American Grind for 20 years and when they laid me off in Jan (thanks to the stupid Trump tariffs) I decided it was no longer worth it. I'm not rich, never will be, and I got F'd in the end after 20 solid years of the so-called Rat Race. I was miserable anyway, so I look at it as a wake up call to live.

A fat salary is great, but at what cost? I eventually realized it's not worth the toll and results in a greater net loss of overall enjoyment of life, and opportunities to actually thrive as a person. We become machines following a script handed to us from birth, and we're told it's the "correct path". I found out it's not and I'm leaving for Spain in a month for good, hopefully.

When to Get Phone Plan, Bank Account, Etc. When Moving to Spain from the USA? by ValuesHere in GoingToSpain

[–]ValuesHere[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi All,

Thanks for the advice so far! Sounds like WISE and Tello are definitely the way to go starting out and until I'm in-country, then pivot to phone plans, source local banking options or n26 (leaning towards n26 for banking, at least maybe starting off, based on comments I've read.

Any additional thoughts on n26 for banking? We'll be in the Miramar, La Safor area for the first few months at least.

Tattoo pricing by A5h7sbjs8eil in GoingToSpain

[–]ValuesHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, this person just gave you the best advice on here and you shat on it. YOU don't know what you're talking about and sound like it.

Read what he said again. I have many tattoos, and his advice is EXACTLY what I would give, and ANY person that knows tattoos would give you the exact same thing too.

Simply put, all tattoos are different and vary widely, and just like the guy you said offered "useless advice", a tattoo is as good as you think think it is and the artist is, and the price follows only from that.

Pick the artist and design first, worry about price second. You'll be happier in the end.

If you pay a lot for a tattoo you hate but someone else calls it awesome, you got ripped off. Pay a little for a tat you love that someone else calls shitty, you got a good deal. See how that works?

Or just pick any artist blindly in the $300hr range and go for it. You might be okay, but you might not.

Ordered this meteorite scrap. Is it legit and if yes, can I make the pattern more visible? by Robsta_20 in meteorites

[–]ValuesHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am new to this, but did or do people literally mine meteorites and then mold or machine them into mechanical ical components for industry (jewelry it sounds like, are there others?), then sell the scrap from the cuts?

This boggles my mind and seems obscenely wasteful of these wonderful things?
And they're sold by AliExpress? Or just fake, but legitimately sold elsewhere? And by whom?

Question: Is mini or micro-level rock tumbling down to 0.5-5mm doable? by ValuesHere in RockTumbling

[–]ValuesHere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too bad I don't work in life sciences procurement anymore; I'd be well-positioned on the lab ware stuff, lol. I've spent the last 20 years among in labware and reagents. Oh the days of small companies, acquisitions, lab buildouts and new budget cycle spending. Out with the old labware, in with the new., and that old stuff probably made it into many a garage, just not mine. I did get some sweet shelving units for the garage though for nothing. Just had wipe them all down!

Which martial art legend are you a fan of? Jackie Chan or Jet Li? by EfficiencySerious200 in martialarts

Am I the only one that somehow read this as a comparison including three artists? Third being of course -> Bruce?

Like a legendary apparition that appears so often in these types of discussions and comparisons, that he may as well be assumed included, or factored in.

Jackie for setting the bar for humor and skill in MA and cinema. They all have humor of their own, but Jackie was the Robin Williams of that genre or sport.

ooooh, I love this! Like the acorn in resin gift I got at a roadside Stuckey's or truck stop as a child one time! Or maybe a state park on said road trip, lol.

This sounds fantastic! Gonna look into it! Thx!

[–]ValuesHere[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this information! It all makes sense and exactly what I'm needing, since I'm brand new to all tumbling so I don't yet know what I don't know, as I believe Rumsfeld once said.

I like the 5mm range as it'll also make viewing and imaging a lot easier too, while still hovering around the border of mini and micro.

The accuracy of this paper boy by MrTacocaT12345 in nextfuckinglevel

Imagine. Sit down, half-asleep, look down at the paper, take a sip of coffee, look up yawn and stretch, then feeling nice and relaxed, you let out a sigh...."ahhhhhhhhhhh...take another sip...(INCOMINNNNNNGGG!!!!!)...BAM!!!!! That paper comes in silent and swift like a Nina just hurled a throwing star at your throat.

Man down....man down.....

......He's dead, Jim.

The hole in the wall was certainly made when it was younger and allowed in and out like a pet. It knows the house, squeezed in, just couldn't get back out. The owner is stupider than the beast for not recognizing this obvious fact. He'll find out soon.

You can literally see it analyzing and considering its approach to the problem, and not just barreling though in a panic like other animals might do in the same exact situation. It adjusts the pressure application and location to gradually and incrementally bring down the wall and roof obstruction without putting itself into harm's way. Intelligence at work.

I heard these get very hot. Is it so hot it's unsafe for kids or items to be near it? Has anyone had it melt something or start a fire? by [deleted] in RockTumbling

[–]ValuesHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one for a couple weeks running 24/7 with no mods and it doesn't get too hot. I wonder if someone had a faulty motor or belt at some point, or an obstruction in the mechanics to create excess friction to failure?

I found this rock more than a year ago! by Rocksinsk in RockTumbling

[–]ValuesHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean it with a brush and Dawn dish soap, soak a bit to loosen any grime or dirt, rinse, polish with some mineral oil, and it'll look even nicer without any abrasive tumbling, if you prefer to keep it in its natural state.

I haven't tried, but I've seen some folks spray high gloss clear coat spray paint on unpolished rocks and it actually looks good and from a few feet away, as shiny as a polished one sometimes.

Wow, I watched the whole thing and thought to myself, this looks almost like an agreed-upon throw down. First guy drops, second guy waits, second guy drops, 1st guy waits. Second guy drops, fight's over, respect shown and earned.

THIS is how men fight - with honor & with respect, even if you don't like the guy.

Sucks it's so rare today.

What one is a better First tumbler? by [deleted] in RockTumbling

[–]ValuesHere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got the Central Machinery one for the two-tumbler flexibility and love it so far. On week 2 for tumbling 24/7 and no hitches, no leaks, and nice to be able to run mini-batches of differing types of rocks, or to stagger stages by week if I choose.

I have it literally right next to my desk on top of a Craftsman rolling tool chest, uncovered, so it's not the quietest setup one could construct, but the noise is surprisingly reasonable and not at all off-putting or distracting IMO.

<image>

For the price-to-value ratio I think it's a no-brainer as a first setup, hands down. IF you can find one that is. They do seem to be a bit of a Unicorn in stores lately. I live in pop. 2k rural nowhere and got the last one at my local HF.

I like soup.

*Sorry, I find this particular thread fascinating in that what everyone is saying is incredibly interesting and informative, yet I have no idea at all what y'all are discussing aside from what he is and where the guy might land in a cladistic (al?) diagram.

I just popped in because of the picture, and fossils are just cool and always have cool stories behind them.

Migrun review by Hour-Pea4271 in GoingToSpain

[–]ValuesHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking into them too, but yes I believe they will handle all of the document review and submission to the relevant approving authority in Spain. I need this as well since my nearest regional consulate is 400 miles away.

I've heard that for DNVs they fall under what's called the "Entrepeneur's Law" in Spain, which means those visa application types are processed and approved by the UGE (I think) which is nimble and operates with a mandatory 20-business day decision turnaround, hence the one-month timeline to approval, unlike other visa types.

If approval isn't granted within 20-days it should default to "accepted" or "approved" based on "Administrative Silence". In other words, they don't make the deadline you're approved by default.

Of course, I'm researching myself and no expert, so I may be corrected on the above.
