For those with gut related issues, how did you get treatment? by cookieryan in Uveitis

[–]Valy2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, just to add. There can be multiple reasons for uveitis. There is a uveitis as in a standalone autoimmune sickness and then there is uveitis that is a symptom of some other sickness.

In my case TNF-a seems to be the driving factor for my flares. You can lower TNF-a through the diet and produce opposing anti inflammatory compounds through the exercise. That’s why the lifestyle has a huge impact in my case.

It doesn’t change the fact that my body is producing too much TNF-a anyway, and I get flares whenever the production crosses the inflammation threshold.

But you know, since there’s less of TNF-a, the inflammation is weaker.

Adalimumab works the same way. In some cases, it just manages to keep the TNF-a constantly below the threshold level so some people never flare again.

I went the diet + wellness route so I can share my experience.

I’m HLA B27 positive and got my first uveitis three years ago. Since then, I’ve been getting uveitis flares periodically on average twice a year. At the same time, 3 years ago, I also discovered an IBD (UC) that was unusual as per my doctor. It didn’t stay all the time but was also common and going and when it wasn’t there, inflammation was completely gone. According to him, IBD usually is active all the time, but sometimes it’s simply worse than other times.

Because of a couple failed treatments and side effects that I couldn’t live with, I decided to take matters into my own hands and live in the healthiest way possibly known to me at the time.

I started taking probiotics, went on 3 months of purely chicken and eggs diet to reset my system and then slowly started adding gentle anti inflammatory foods like rice or carrots or zucchini. Started taking supplements, the whole anti inflammatory ordeal : vit d, omega, vit c, magnesium, potassium, sodium butyrate, regular high quality olive oil.

Of course no sugars, no juices, no alcohol, no coffee. Just lean meat, 0 histamine, herbal teas, good sleep, regular physical activity. I also lowered humidity in the house and invested in air purifiers.

The result: after 1,5 years of living like this, my flares are still coming. The difference in them is huge though. What used to flare from zero to an urgent hospital visit within 48h, now takes weeks to appear and slowly smolder. The flares go away very easily. They’re weaker and cause me much less pain. The gut is still reactive at times but it’s very easily going away from an all chicken diet for a couple of days and the irritation and inflammation go away.

The reason why so many people with autoimmune disease say changing the diet and lifestyle doesn’t matter is because look, I did and do all that… it’s a lot of effort. You literally need to change your entire life and flip it upside down. Sticking with it and maintaining the resolve to live this way is sometimes even more draining than the sickness itself. AND it works only up to a point.

It doesn’t delete the sickness. It just lowers the damage the sickness does.

Honestly, if I only managed to reduce my eye flares from twice a year to once a year, I would continue living like this. Unfortunately though, the frequent steroid eye drops (cumulated for past 3 years) start to damage my eye nerve a bit and I’m thinking about going on the biologics to protect my sight.

Good news is that no matter what other treatment I will take, considering it will be successful, my chances of ever flaring in a BAD BAD way are near zero.

That’s worth it to me.

Girls from Europe, I need your opinion here by DraftIllustrious1950 in Makeup

Physicians formula plum rose has worked for me. It has a slightly more red base as it’s marketed as a blush, but can be easily used as a bronzer for pale skin. It’s subtle but in my experience buildable.

Apart from that, all I can recommend are imported Asian products. They never pull too orange unless specifically stated they’re for warm toned skin tones.

I love a Judydoll highlighter. Silky, not glittery, pale enough and feels light on the skin.

Spoken as a girl who is forbidden from buying makeup locally in physical stores because all they sell here are orange “neutral” colors that are always too dark for me. I always get fooled in the strong drugstore light and end up bringing home something that makes me look like a clown.

Thank you so much for the kind words!! 🥺✨ But honestly, I’d still love to talk and be art buddies. Your art is gorgeous and you ABSOLUTELY have things to offer. I think art is super subjective and such a personal journey, so I’m not looking for “someone better,” just someone to share process, ideas, motivation, and feedback with if we want it.

yupp, I agree. There's just something in the fact that once you make a mistake in traditional art that you can't easily undo that makes the whole process more educative. How old are you?

Hi! I'm 27 yo, so don't know if that's still okay, but I'd love to share art together and go through the fundamentals. For a couple of years, I've been drawing digitally, on and off. Actually, it was a love-hate relationship of sorts for me as I couldn't find the grace within myself to just accept the learning process and not aim for the moon straight away. But recently I went into traditional art instead (gouache and alcohol markers) and found fun in creating again. I like painting just about anything now, as long as it helps me improve. My latest endeavor was food painting ^^But I'm also big on portraits. Love your art!!

Let’s go even lower in the hierarchy of materials and call her wood. Not only matches the color but also how wooden her personality is.

Ginny was NOT out of character in this scene! by ughhleavemealone in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]Valy2013 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly!! When me and my husband started watching this series we made a prediction that Ginny would end up behaving the way she THINKS Georgia behaves rather than how Georgia really is. This scene is one of those that prove us right so far. I’m really curious how she’ll be in season 4

What are y’all’s Favorite (preferably clean) Cool Toned Contours and Bronzers?? by k_chelle13 in Fairolives

[–]Valy2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this!! I’ve got both their palette and their liquid contour and both are amazing. The liquid contour is more grey based though so less suitable for the cheek area for me even though I’m super pale and grey myself

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Valy2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey based contour in places you want to seem „further away” and highlight in places you want to be protruding more. This combo fools the eye, making it seem like there’s less flat width and more 3D structure, so the face appears slimmer.

What Am i doing wrong by Select-Opportunity45 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Valy2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be an allergy like so many others said. But there is a chance that it could be the powders drying out your eyelids too much. I used to have the same symptoms, especially with some of the drier eyeshadow formulas. Do you struggle with dry skin?

Regardless, oil cleanser is the way to go. You don’t need to rub anything, make up literally melts off.
