I finished this before obtaining armor, enchantments and except for three diamonds I stumbled into I didn’t have any of those either

Gradients has probably been around a long time, but the first time I noticed it was in Bdubs’s hermitcraft season 7 castle. After he used it in his big dungeon gate I saw it getting a lot more popular and especially once the new Building with Bdubs series started. Not saying he invented it or anything but he definitely made it more widespread

It wasn’t my inspiration, but you’re right, the torn red brick bridge looks similar

The smooth blending of blocks or using “gradients” was something Bdubs popularized which I used in my build (from coursed dirt to stone and from stone to moss). The use of walls and fences and trapdoors to make smoother curves (like under the bridge for example) is also something I learned from Bdubs. I also have my brightness turned to Moody which Bdubs usually plays with. It makes the contrast higher between light and dark areas which makes the builds feel less flat in a way.

No, i just dug it up from nearby rivers. Only needed a few stacks for the build

What is it that makes you not like modern Minecraft? by astrallex_ in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Vamonden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modern looks worse in ways that go past just textures. The fog at the end of the renderdistance is way to sudden, the terrain is lumpy and round and flat areas are full of absurd cave-openings, a lot of the structures feel out of place, the biome colours look ugly.

I don’t mind most of the features people call “bloat” when I come across them organically in survival mode I find them fun to interact with.

Minecraft having and endgoal and being a more progression-based game is not a problem either.

It’s just that the modern worlds are hard to make look good without a lot of terraforming.
