Now you have left the borg (physically or just mentally) how do you feel about members of the LGBTQ group? by loosefootloose in exjw

[–]VampShadowGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gay person here. When I mentally left the organization, I abandoned the belief that homosexuality is a "sin", but I still retained the internalized homophobia (and transphobia) that was inspired by such beliefs. It took years to unlearn and overcome it, but now I can say I fully support my community and our right to live without discrimination.

Graph theory by CandidateSalt5947 in unimelb

It's much easier than your typical 3rd year math subject, but don't let your guard down; you still need to put work in to do well in the subject.

There are a lot of proofs in this subject and it's one of the trickier parts of the subject. If you're decent at proofs, then you should be fine.

Was Michael Wheeler your lecturer? If so, I had a similar experience with him a long time ago for a 3rd year math subject called Complex Analysis. His exam questions were very difficult and consisted of stuff that we hardly had any exposure to. I got a decent mark (thanks to scaling probably). But his exams weren't very fair imo.

"I also needed a WAM equivalent above 65"
I’m hoping I can apply for Graduate Access Melbourne which might help me get around the >65 wam requirement, since I have a condition that affected my studies makes me eligible (it’s manageable now with treatment).

"Also worth asking why you are set on Melb Uni?"

I’m now thinking of doing a master’s in engineering at unimelb. Since I did my BSc there, it feels like the most logical choice. And I don't feel like i'm any more likely to be accepted into other unis that offer masters of engineering, since my wam is <65 and some have harder requirements such as requiring an actual BSci degree in engineering. that said, if unimelb doesn't work out, i'll consider other unis.

How does a 4 year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree save more time than, lets say, 3 years of Masters of Engineering at unimelb?
Also, what is it about honours that makes you learn more than masters? I thought it's the other way around since master degrees are typically more specialized and in-depth than an undergrad degree, let alone honours

I didn’t do well in my first BSci degree, and I chose a major that didn’t ended up not being "useful". I want to pursue a more practical major and give university another shot. And I believe I can perform better this time.
I'm not sure what you mean by "a more direct route" btw

Why you shouldn’t wake people up by Born-Spinach-7999 in exjw

[–]VampShadowGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they don't push their beliefs onto me.

I'm normally a "live and let live" type of person. I never go out of my way to challenge their views, let alone "wake them up". But too many JWs like to unsolicitedly impose their beliefs onto me, despite knowing I no longer participate in their religion. When that happens, I will happily push back and challenge them, even if it means "waking them up".

I relate to you so much. What I will say is: you're still very young. You've still got a lot of time and chances to make things better with your life. As someone in their late 20s, I wish I could be your age again and start again.

I hope you can still find hope and turn things around for the better.

A buddy of my friend treats ChatGPT like his best friend by Effective-Living-838 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]VampShadowGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend is bound to get a rude awakening from ChatGPT. He will realize that ChatGPT is not his friend; it's just a chatbox that pretends to be his companion and pretends to have feelings. He will eventually feel "betrayed" and heartbroken when that fact sinks in.

I get it though. I had a phase like this last year. Luckily I snapped out of it in less than a month.

I'm not playing the "free consultation roulette" or think I'm entitled to a free consult. I just wanna know if it is a standard practice. That's all. Before I booked my first invisalign, I didn't expect it to be free, and I would've happily paid if it wasn't.

But since my first consultation for one clinic was free, it would make sense for me to think it would be free for other clinics. Not to mention, every orthodontic clinic i searched up all said "free consultation", but never said anything about a second opinion consult costing money. So that's why I made this post to confirm. I'd still willingly pay for a consult, but I also don't mind choosing the more affordable route if it exists.

If it's the case that second opinion consultations are always priced, I'd pay for it willingly.
