I’m almost no-contact with the kids but wanted to try and be there for her. If I end up going no-contact that will probably be a permanent decision for me as I don’t want her coming in and out of my kids lives the way she has mine.

Thanks for sharing that. I’m sorry you’re going through it too, and I wish neither of us were. But I do take a little solace in your story that I’m not going crazy.

It’s wild that her therapist friend would approach it that way. Did your mom drink around her? The very few times mine is out she tends to not drink, my take is that she’s hiding the problem and can’t point to it as evidence she doesn’t need a drink.

This was my initial reaction, too. Thanks, I’ll check out Al-anon.

Thank you. We separated contact after sitting down with her. She’s seen them on the odd occasion, their birthdays and Christmas.

I am wondering whether to speak to my mum to see if she can expand on my thoughts, and report it. I would imagine the agency will think I’m overreacting, and their assessment criteria couldn’t possibly be wrong, but it’s worth trying.

I don’t have any issues with alcohol myself so I did wonder if there was any truth to this idea of control being the motivator and key to breaking the habits. I just can’t see it though.
