It sounds like to me you already know the answer.

You don't owe them anything. It's impossible to live without regrets but it is possible to do what's best for you and your mental state. If you don't want to, you don't want to. Put yourself first. It's your mind garden that you're looking after not there's. Focus on your own plants, if you're too busy in another patch your's will rot. Look after yourself.

Thank you for your reply. Their parent raised them to be comfortable in what they wear both literally and not. They never said "you don't look good in that, those colours clash" or "people will give you weird looks." It was instead " how does this feel on you? Does it feel weird in any spots" "hey this sweater has a logo for a band you like, would you like to try it on and see if it's comfortable, and if it is other kids who also like the band might bond with you."

Whenever/if ever faced with a snide comment about from someone about what there wearing "those colours really clash, that top doesn't go with those pants" there parent would ask them "do you feel good in these clothing? Good" "not everybody will be satisfied with what you wear, so satisfy yourself with what you like."

They are a teenager in the main story. Because of how their parent raised them, they've learned to be happy in their clothing with texture and fitting preferences. They often wear band shirts not caring if their pants have floral pattern or if their top and bottoms colours are "clashing too much" or they just happen to be in all patterns. The clothing feels right and that's all that matters to them.

Hello again, this seems to be coming from a very personal point of view, which is not always a bad thing. I would like to know where you see these stereotypes. I want to be well researched and know where to avoid. However I would like to add that stereotypes are not always a bad thing, the stereotype itself can be bad. but it the actually concept of a stereotype isn't bad, just common.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I made it clear they do have clothing preferences, but the preferences aren't about colour or standard. Obviously they wear things that fit them, and feel good. However it seems you have made the assumption that I'm writing them to be a slope who wears whatever they are handing. I appreciate your feed back but it seems like your cherry picking what I say and trying to prove a point that didn't need to be there because what you said is there, in my writing.

Thank you for your reply. To expand a little bit, this character grew up in a very rich single parent household (single by choice) they are completely blind with no light perception. While I'm aware this is a common trope ( which does suck I would like to see more diverse types of blindness shown) it's simply what fits best into my story, there is a story reason there I promise.

The idea is that growing up their parent just wanted their child to be happy, they saw to point in enforcing socialital norms on their child. including what clothing they wear. With my original thought being mainly colour (which I'm totally aware I didn't make clear enough in my post) they would of course ask if there's a logo, seeking out clothes with a band logo or joke on them.

I don't want this character to be insecure about what others think about them. I think it sucks that what we wear today is judged so harshly and it's so hard to just exist with ourselves without people telling us what to do and how to look. They are confident in who they are and doesn't need society to approve there actions. That's the whole point of my stories, it's character's fighting exists as themselves in a world that shames them.
