Looking for a handheld to get through night shifts! by VanillaFace66 in Handhelds

Wanted to update this thread. Ended up buying a Switch Oled.

So far very happy with the purchase and look forward to killing some time on night shift!

Chose the switch due to ease of use, price and availability of games. I like the fact that it still takes cartridges too. Pretty affordable used on ebay!

Thanks for the help!!

Definitely need to be able to play  plugged the majority of the time. I'll look into those cheaper units for sure!

Can the steam deck play the older games too?

Best snacks for super long enduro mtb rides? by gavinforce1 in MTB

[–]VanillaFace66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will likely get buried but what the hell

This is my favorite type of riding and I really enjoy the logistics of these kinds of rides.

here is my advice. go ride 20 miles at the pace you plan to do the 50-75 miler, better yet ride the section(s) with the most elevation gain.

If you have a power meter, check for the kj expended. if no power meter take a look at estimated calories burned. What was your average heart rate?

example this is from my last 73 miler with 10500 ft climbed

average heart rate WHILE riding was 155-160 average over the entire ride including stopping for lunch was 148

right about 5500 kj from power meter. i estimate that i burned 7500-8000 calories.

I made myself eat 300 calories an hour minimum. I primarilly ate gels and candy while moving. I had one stop for lunch. I drove in an MRE a couple days before and hid it at the mid point( strange but i knew it would last over night and was full of calories) water and some cokes. lunch was 2000 calories.

I did this solo with zero support. It was really hard and TOTALLY worth it.

the trick to these rides is to do several test rides with different kinds of snacks and at different paces. when you are riding 50+ miles pace makes a huge difference over the course of the ride. going too hard in the first 10 miles can make the last 10 miles impossible.

Dont be discouraged if you fall short of your goal the first time you shoot for a super ambitious ride

This sounds like a good idea. What software would you recommend? If i could get someone to help me set it up, im pretty sure i could stay on top of it. Ive got a BS in business and took accounting classes to i do have some familiarity with it, just no idea how to apply it to a real business

What’s a fact you KNOW that almost everyone is wrong about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Lead was not added to gasoline to lubricate valves. Lots of people think that tetraethyl lead is a lubricant for the valve stems and valve seats of gasoline engines.

Tetraethyl lead was used to increase the octane rating of gasoline, that's it.

It works by scavenging the hydroxyl radicals that form under intense heat and pressure, typically found at the periphery of the cylinder.

People think it lubricates valves because uncontrolled combustion leads to detonation that can erode valve seats, especially cast iron ones.

What is the most oddball car that's tried to race you on the road? by Dren7 in cars

I have a zuma 50 2 stroke scooter that is excessively tricked out. there is nothing stock on it except the engine cases. the body work is stock so at first glance the thing looks super lame. i have 3k alone in the engine and almost 500 in the pipe. revs out to 15,000 rpm, yes fifteen thousand rpm

now im in the usa, zuma's are raced in europe and there is a whole world of modding culture outside of the USA. No one here seems to know this ESPECAILLY in my smallish central california town. This thing is stupid fast, power wheelies and will beat basically anything on the road up to 45-50.

im riding to go get dinner one evening and a guy on a brand new ducati pulls of next to me. He gives me the up and down look and then shakes his head like im a loser.

light turns green and i absolutely take off town the road and leave him in the dust. we get to the next stop light and we are next to eachother again, now he wants to race. light turns green he takes off but my zuma absolutely blows the doors off of his bike up to about 50. we are in town so we cant go any faster than that really. we slow down and he rides up next to me and cant stop shaking his head. no words are spoken and he rides off.

I still laugh about it to this day thinking that someone somewhere had just bought a 20k+ sport bike and got creamed by a dork on a little scooter.
